@Geek_Squad39 It is on the both the team and the player to be willing to live with the consequences of their actions when agreeing to a contract,
If the team wants to save money by offering a NMC then they must be ok with the player using that clause to their advantage and vice versa.
Hopefully this FINALLY forces NHL GMs to be more strict on who gets NTC/NMC’s.
NTC in each sport:
MLB - approx. 40 (not including 10-and-5 rights)
NBA - 2
NFL - 9
NHL - approx. 260
@DuilleogGhorm That’s on the GM/team. David Poile rarely ever gave NTCs, so it is possible to sign players without the protection.
But if you are so worried about saving money that you offer a full NMC to limit the cap hit, you have to be willing to deal with the consequences of your actions.
@BaileyMacWulf That’s the point. Teams offer NTCs in order to negotiate lower salaries, then get pissed when players flaunt the clause.
If the league wants there to be fewer NTCs it starts with the GMs being more ruthless about offering them.
@thatssoleafy77 Lowering the term limit would not stop teams from offering NTCs. Teams use those clauses to lower the cap hit by offering more security rather than salary.
Carolina has 13 forwards, 10 of them have some form of a NTC. Including all 3 4th liners: Robinson, Jankowski, & Carrier
Apparently all the NHL insiders are @$$ because this is at least the 3rd or 4th example in the past month of insiders reporting conflicting information on the same story.
Knies trade
Woodcroft was/wasn’t interviewed
Matthews’ future as a Leaf
Darren Dreger: Yes, there were conversations on Matthew Knies with the Habs, did it ever get close to the finish line? No, it didn't really; Michael Hage would've been a part of that and...it wasn't gonna happen from Montreal's standpoint - Morning Show/McKenna & Starr (6/5)
@mikedennymike I play and I have made that same play several times, just like Marner did and just like Eric Robinson did.
People are clearly missing my point. That lob play happened multiple times just like it does every game. Marner’s version was sensationalized, Robinson’s was not.
I’m tired of bringing up Marner, but I think Game 2 shows what is bugging Leaf fans
1st per- Marner lobs a puck out of the D zone, Howden makes *the* play to score, media praises Marner vision on the “pass.”
3rd per- Robinson lobs puck out, Jankowski scored, media says nothing.
The scoreboard might say it’s 4-0 but don’t forget the Hurricanes allowed SIX goals that period.
Has to be one of the worst 20 minute stretches in Cup Final history
The soft plays & unforced errors Carolina is making is ridiculous.
Chatfield letting 2 VGK F’s sit in front
Walker scoring on his own net
Carrier facing NO pressure and flubbing a clearing attempt.
If you’re gonna have breakdowns might as well get them out of the way in 1 game.
@FacelessHockey@mcclusk Agreed. The Leafs need to get out of their zone quicker and keep it out of their zone longer. But when they are in their zone they need to be on the same page for how to defend.
@FacelessHockey@mcclusk I agree with you that the new coach HAS to value puck possession, but looking at this picture of the Leafs defensive stats last season, the new coach HAS to remedy their D zone woes as well.
@habs1973 Marner leading the playoffs in points doesn’t change the fact the media hyperbolizes everything he does.
Marner lobs a puck out to go for a line change & a player scores “what an amazing pass by Marner!”
Marner got hit with the puck when jumping away “amazing block by Marner!”
@JeffMarek Was it the Wild who had the pick and we’re debating between him and Louie Belpedio, so they traded back one spot and took whoever the Lightning didn’t select?
@veritas_11 Agreed. Getting to play in the “pillow fight” division and get to play against Vejmelka, Dostal, Wedgewood, and Freddie during a playoff run is crazy good fortune.
@veritas_11 People treated him harshly because they saw what he could do in the regular season and were shocked when he could not sustain that or at least be close to that player in the playoffs.
