Today, the PUCO urged the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to limit new proposed “new large load” rules to data centers and cryptocurrency miners only —not traditional manufacturers.
The proposal would require large new electricity customers to provide their own power or face prioritization for power reductions or shut-offs during grid stress.
Today the PUCO directed @AEPOhio to implement measures to protect other customers from potentially being impacted from data centers' effects on energy prices.
Belden also commits to investing $8 million in on-site generation to further manage electricity consumption. Up to 520 employees will be retained across its Sugarcreek and Canton facilities over the next 5 years.

Today, the PUCO approved an arrangement between The Belden Brick Company and AEP Ohio.
Belden will be billed for transmission services based on annual peak load, allowing it to better manage its electricity use during times of peak demand.
Today the PUCO denied the application of PALMco Energy to become a retail energy provider to industrial and large commercial customers. In its order, the PUCO noted that at least 10 enforcement actions have been brought against PALMco in other jurisdictions where they operate.
The PUCO has denied FirstEnergy Ohio's application to loosen its reliability standards — the current standards will remain in place.
In its order, the PUCO noted the significant amount of outreach received from customers, stakeholders, & elected officials in opposition.
In return, Mid-West Forge commits to making $10 million in capital expenditures and reinvesting utility bill savings in apprenticeship vocational training opportunities for its employees.

Today, the PUCO approved an arrangement between Mid-West Forge Corporation and Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company.
Mid-West Forge will participate in CEI's transmission pricing program, which will allow it to better manage its consumption during times of peak demand.
Today, the PUCO approved a settlement agreement and ordered @AEPOhio to:
• Reduce its annual revenues by approximately $58.7 million
• Institute a minimum monthly charge for new data center customers to help ensure data center customers pay for the costs they impose on the grid
• Update bill formats to help customers better understand their electricity bills
• Continue programs that will make capital investments in their system and manage vegetation
📍NEW: the PUCO has directed Ohio's electric utilities to file distribution hosting capacity maps by May 31.
These maps, a requirement of last year's HB 15 legislation, can help identify locations to help alleviate strain on the grid or accommodate new development.
