With those 2 words—”Myanmar president”—one of the world’s most influential news agencies simply handed #MinAungHlaing the legitimacy he is seeking, neglecting 5 years of #airstrikes, #massacres, mass imprisonment & egregious violence he has instigated.

We urge 🇦🇺FM @SenatorWong to raise directly with fellow Quad member 🇮🇳PM Narendra Modi his decision to host alleged war criminal & junta leader Min Aung Hlaing.
PM #Modi has recklessly undermined the path to genuine democracy in #Myanmar & caused significant damage to the #Quad.
Even as the military junta promotes its so-called sham government and “100-Day Plan,” civilians in conflict-affected areas continue to face deadly attacks, displacement, and fear. In Yaytharshay Township, Bago Region, local residents said the junta used a Y-12 aircraft to drop more than 20 bombs on villages in the Sittaung River basin on the night of June 15, while fighting between junta troops and resistance forces continued in the area.
According to local sources, the aerial bombing took place between around 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM near Padauk Gone, Kyun Gone, and Se Wa Taw villages, located east of Swa Town. Some civilian homes were reportedly damaged in the attack.
“The fighting between the junta troops and local resistance forces continued throughout the day on June 15, from morning until evening. The junta troops were unable to gain control on the ground. In the past, whenever they faced direct ground clashes, they often suffered losses. Their main reliance is on air attacks. That is why, on the night of June 15, they came with a Y-12 aircraft and bombed the area. They dropped bombs continuously, about three bombs at a time, with around 20 bombs falling across the surrounding area. Our location is not very far from there, so we could hear the explosions clearly. It may still be difficult to confirm casualties within these one or two days. However, hundreds of people have already fled the fighting,” said a local man.
Since the second week of June, junta troops have been stationed in Padauk Gone Village, where they remain in a tense confrontation with resistance forces. Local residents said junta troops have also carried out repeated arson attacks in the area. At least 10 houses from three villages, including Padauk Gone, have reportedly been destroyed by fire.
Because of the continued fighting, arson attacks, and aerial bombing, many local residents are still too afraid to return home. Displaced families are now sheltering in unsafe conditions during the rainy season, with limited protection from rain, wind, illness, and insecurity.
A person who has helped provide food support to displaced villagers said people are facing urgent needs.
“We do not have shelters. We also need medicine. Malaria and flu are now very common. We need medicine for other diseases too. Women also need basic items such as menstrual pads,” the source said.
Earlier in the second week of June, junta airstrikes in Yedashe Township reportedly killed two civilians. According to a statement from Battalion 3504, Company 1, based in Yedashe Township, and local military sources, junta forces also burned Padauk Gone Village, while fighting in the area continued.
Thousands of civilians from villages across Yedashe Township have now fled due to junta military columns, airstrikes, arson attacks, and ongoing clashes. Displaced communities include residents from Padauk Gone, Oak Myay Lu, Se Si, Eay Ywa Lay, Kyun Gone, Yay Tar Shay Lay, Yay Ngan, Ingyipauk, Khin Tan New Village, Kan Hla, Gway The, Taung Ingone, Kyainn Gone, and Kyeik Padee villages.
Since its so-called “100-day peace offer,” the junta has killed 143 civilians & continues to terrorize communities.
Yet @ASEAN still continues to complicit in junta’s crimes.🚨
#ASEAN: Listen to the voices of #Myanmar ppl.
Stop engaging w/ war criminals.
