A lógica petista funciona assim:
I studied in the academic department at Cambridge that later employed Jason Arday. Here's just some of the crap I learnt: For one module, I wrote a lengthy essay about how cultural products like kids’ cartoons and jazz songs serve as instruments of capitalist oppression. I got a top mark on that paper (despite knowing at the time that I was essentially regurgitating complete crap).
While studying for another paper I had a debate with the professor, an eminent anthropologist, because she insisted that native tribes could fly through the trees - not metaphorically, but that they could literally fly because they believed they could fly. After all, who are we to question ‘indigenous ways of knowing’...
For a different course, I read long ‘research papers’ which argued that the fact that black kids are excluded from schools more than white kids proves systemic racism exists in education. Crucially, they ignored the fact that white kids are excluded more than, e.g., Japanese kids, a statistic which, applying the exact same logic, would suggest that the education system is systemically biased in favour of, erm, Japanese kids (which obviously it isn’t).
Something that was held up as proof of the existence of this largely imaginary racism was that teachers tell kids not to use booming voices in the classroom, and not to put up their hoods or wear their trousers down below their pants.
On another occasion, my supervisor casually praised some students agitators who were trying to shut down a talk by someone they disagreed with. I said that I didn’t think this was something to celebrate, because I believed in freedom of speech. He got visibly angry, and proceeded to tell me that free speech was not worth protecting in a capitalist system (or something along those lines).
In my all-important final year, a lecturer let me know that I shouldn’t worry too much about my exam results, because as someone who was not from an upper class background I should be more focussed on using my grasp of leftist revolutionary theory to further the interests of the proletariat. Writing this down, it strikes me that it’s so hilariously mental that some of you will presumably assume I’m lying. But there’s no way I’m leaving it out, because it happened.
Unlike the academics who make a living from this stuff, I couldn’t bring myself to build a career pumping out whiney, divisive, intellectually incoherent rubbish. But others, as we’ve seen exposed in recent days, do so with gusto. And are lauded for it.
Please read the full piece this is taken from, and give it a share. I've linked it in the tweet below.
Slow down and remember this:
Most things make no difference.
Being busy is a form of laziness—lazy thinking and indiscriminate action.
Being overwhelmed is often as unproductive as doing nothing, and is far more unpleasant.
Being selective—doing less—is the path of the productive.
Focus on the important few and ignore the rest.

It means that she is unable to sustain a relationship because she has been too psychologically damaged by child stardom.
Getting far less than you deserve is a crisis everyone is familiar with, if they were born in America after 1970.
But getting far more than you deserve is its own kind of crisis.
Imagine if, starting in primary school, someone had paid you multiple millions of dollars to act in series of high-budget school plays, and spent more millions of dollars to publicize you around the globe and tell everyone from New York City to Bangladesh what an amazing talented special person you are.
That would set your baseline for what constitutes approval. Except, since you are probably of average or slightly above average IQ and agency, nothing you could possibly do would ever achieve that level of success on your own.
And so you would be stuck between two horrific possibilities. Either your entire life's work has nothing to do with you, and you are nothing but the beneficiary of outrageous good fortune, or you are a special talented shining star who deserves to be the darling of the world, and everyone suddenly stopped noticing that when you hit 25 or so.
How could such a person possibly have a healthy relationship?
How could such a person possibly do anything but stumble through life narcissistically seeking public praise and attention like a junkie searching through the couch cushions for an unsmoked crumb of meth?
If I manage to drag myself through second-novel-syndrome, get the sequel out, and sell a million copies or something ridiculous like that, I'd be overjoyed. But it wouldn't destroy me, because I did it through own efforts, and so if I could do it once, I could do it again.
But nothing Emma Watson could ever do would bring her as many eyeballs as @jk_rowling brought, merely because she coincidentally looked and sounded like a fictional character in a children's book, and had decent, if unremarkable, acting skills.
Joanne Rowling made Emma a star, but I don't think she did the kid any favors, in the long run.
In pre-modern Europe, church choirs and the operatic stage drove a trade in the castration of little boys, to produce singers with a high-pitched voice paired with the lung capacity of a man.
The modern West regards this as a barbaric practice, but we have castrati of our own, children who are allowed to grow into miserable, emotionally stunted adults so that we can make our modern equivalent of opera... films with child characters.
In the audiobook for my first novel, "Theft of Fire", I have a child character. But she is played by @toss_across, who despite her frequent moments of playful silliness, is very much an adult.
She doesn't have to look like a child, she just has to sound like one, which is a skill that can be learned and mastered.
If generative AI-enhanced animation tools can bring about photorealistic films which are cheaper than live action, and live actors are replaced by voice actors forever, then I, for one, cannot wait.
The end of Hollywood megastardom, if not a bonus, is at least a fair price to pay for ridding the world of this species of child abuse.
I am bewildered, and not very impressed, by the visceral, naked, irrational hatred spat out by some defenders of Jason Arday. If a Cambridge professor is accused of being an unqualified charlatan, the accusation might be racially motivated. On the other hand it might not, depending on the evidence. The correct question to ask is not, ”What is the colour of his skin” but “Is it in fact true that he is an unqualified charlatan?” Please examine the evidence before leaping to the assumption of racism.
As for the idea that journalists “piled in on him” and “hounded him to his death”, most attacks were against Cambridge University. Jason himself was widely regarded as an unfortunate victim of foolish promotion way beyond his ability to cope. In appointing him to a professorship for which he was manifestly unqualified – in ludicrously describing him as “the best in the world” – certain senior members of the university showed a level of patronising condescension towards black people that could fairly be described as racism, while at the same time making him tragically vulnerable to such attacks as came his way.
@BretWeinstein Atheism is an cathalyst to narcissism.
I understand the Universe= I am god.
It quickly degenerates into paranoia, macchiavelism, psychopathy and sadism.
If you have Complex PTSD (CPTSD), your amygdala is hypersensitive due to past trauma. This means your brain reacts to small triggers, tone of voice, a sudden noise, a dismissive look, as if danger is happening right now. Your nervous system isn’t broken, it’s just overprotective. It remembers pain so vividly that even safety feels suspicious. 1/5
