@faustocoppi60 I’m wondering if he caught the same illness and if he can fully perform the remaining days if 2 teammates already caught it. Would be a pity if the team missed their chance because riders are not protected from illness.
@vismaleaseabike Wishing them both the best.
It's baffling that pro sports don't prioritize rider health more. In a game of marginal gains, not getting sick is a massive competitive advantage.
Pulling out ahead of Stage 7 is the right move so they can focus 100% on recovery.
The Swiss Re Institute suggests COVID will kill about 150,000 Americans this year (excess deaths), so it's more like a bad cancer than a bad flu.
I would suggest talking to scientists who do Covid research and continue to take it seriously. My wife and I lead separate PhD programs. We homeschool so that our children do not experience the brain damage and other health problems from reinfections, which continue to pose a serious burden in 2026. It remains the most common chronic health condition in kids.
A key reason why it might appear "milder" is that about 2 million Americans have died from COVlD (excess deaths). Wipe out 2 million people most vulnerable to any health problem, it will almost always appear acutely milder.
Funny how I don’t remember any jokes about 9/11 first responders, @jonstewart. Just years of consistent, heartfelt education and advocacy. And yet you’ve chosen to punch down on a group of vulnerable people with miserable quality of lives who really need your help. Sad and gross.
Past Andes virus outbreaks show that virions can be aerosolized by speech.
Saying “hello” within 1–2 meters without physical contact was enough for human-to-human spread.
For human-transmissible viruses, speech-range aerosol spread should be seen as the norm, not the exception.
Maskenlose Menschen, die uns seit 2022 eine Angststörung andichten, haben Angst vor einer neuen Pandemie, während wir ganz entspannt sind.
Ich lache mehr, als ich sollte.
An old HIV drug has proven so effective for COVD-19 (reduced viral load, prevents severe disease and ⬇️death by 30%) that it has now been approved in China for just $50, unlike Paxlovid that retails for $1800 in the U.S. —I doubt the Trump FDA will ever approve it for COVID.

@lucasaganronald Nowadays the riders are always sick. Jonas, Victor and Almeida also recently.
Doing everything to stay health is a big competitive advantage.
@jonpq21 @lucasaganronald There are great non-invasive methods. If applied conservatively, such as air purifiers indoors, far less people get sick.
Would you drink unfiltered water. Engineers saved millions of people from Polio.
Also mind long term covid risks such as cancer

Analyzing over 44 million US medical records, University of Virginia researchers found that patients hospitalized with severe COVID infection had a 19% higher risk of developing lung cancer.
These findings of SARS-CoV-2’s oncogenic potential adds to recent evidence that SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses can trigger rapid metastatic growth of breast cancer cells in the lungs within two weeks of infection.

@jonpq21 @lucasaganronald Why is now victor ill? Chance is that he spreaded in the team bus or hotel. Easily preventable marking others in the team sick.
Dude, do you know that Covid f*cks up the immune system, leads to more hearts attacks etc? All facts - data proves it over and over again.
There are concerns about a "mysterious illness" going through the pelaton at the top cycling event Tour de France. Several racers were reported to be affected already days ago. Since then, star M. van der Poel has withdrawn with pneumonia while R. Evenepoel left feeling "empty"
