Excessive Cosmetic Procedures & Fear of Aging

When a culture loses a strong spiritual impulse, the body can become something we’re constantly trying to conquer, alter, or escape.

We start looking for ways to feel better through controlling our appearance to the point that we can no longer genuinely perceive ourselves.

Along with this comes the fear of aging.

We have to ask ourselves: do we really want to look younger and more attractive, or are we confronting the realization that we have not lived a life that was truly authentic?

Perhaps when we see ourselves aging, we become retrospective. We begin to see the years we have spent on things that ultimately did not matter to the soul.

In that sense, the desire to become ageless may be rooted in something deeper than vanity. Perhaps we are instinctively trying to return to a period of life we have not fully reconciled with.

We want to go back, not simply because we miss our youth, but because we cannot yet face ourselves as we are now, at the culmination of everything we have lived.

Aging forces us to ask a difficult question:

Have I actually become the person I was meant to become?
