Japan were brave at 0-0 but became far too defensive after that.
That’s the theme of their tournament.
Not ambitious enough.
And it cost them for both of the goals conceded.
Brazil deserved that late winner.
Ancelotti did what he does best at half-time as he changed Brazil’s press, made them more dynamic going forwards with Endrick on for Paqueta with Cunha in the left #8, and he adjusted the dynamic between Vini and Santos who were more fluid positionally.
And, Martinelli in the left #8, of course… not only did Martinelli score the winner from a central position, but he also changed the flow of the game with his reliable defensive output in place of Cunha in midfield when the game was a little too basketball-y.

Koeman killed Netherlands with his subs.
Lost all balance with Koopmeiners coming on for Summerville on the right wing.
The dynamics were subpar before that but at least consistent width was held. Lost it with Koopmeiners.
Went from dominating the ball to defending their box.
