Keir defied all odds leading the Labour Party to victory having been told we would be out of power for a generation.
He led a government that invested in public services, took generational steps to end child poverty, handed more power to communities to shape their lives and delivered transformational expansions of rights for workers, renters and leaseholders.
I know personally his commitment to justice, to giving everyone the opportunity to achieve their potential and his deep sense of service, that means he has always put the country first.
He is an incredibly honourable man and I’m proud to have been elected and served under his leadership.
Our job now is to unite as a party, build on the positive foundations built over the last 2 years, that are already showing improvements in our public services, our economy and our neighbourhoods and work every day to deliver the change people voted for us to deliver.
I was proud to stand on Downing Street with the Prime Minister this morning.
And I’m proud of the Britain that this Labour government is working to deliver - a country where power, wealth and opportunity is shared amongst the many and not the few.
Keir Starmer brought our Labour Party back from the brink into government after 14 years in opposition.
He did so because the public trusted us on the economy and on national security, and because they voted for our manifesto.
My party mustn’t forget the lessons of our successive defeats, and must remember why and how we won only two years ago.
Whatever happens next, we can be grateful for Keir Starmer’s leadership and the work his government has done to put Britain back on a path to a brighter future.
We wish Keir and his family all the best for what comes next, and remain forever grateful for what he has done for my party and for our country.
The highest recognition and praise that @Keir_Starmer will get today: from the EU and his international partners. As a PM, Starmer will be greatly missed across the Continent.
From taking our party from the worst defeat in modern history, @Keir_Starmer turned it around and delivered a landslide majority just four years later.
Keir Starmer can be immensely proud of his achievements in bringing Labour back to power and leading two years in Government to make Britain a fairer, stronger country.
Today’s statement showed the great dignity and integrity that is the mark of the man.
I’ve known Keir since he was a lawyer. He was principled then, just as he is now, and throughout his career he has been driven by a deep sense of public service and duty to this country.
He transformed the Labour Party, rooted out antisemitism, restored trust and made our party electable again. He won a historic mandate to change Britain for the better and, most importantly, he delivered on that promise.
With Keir’s leadership, this Labour government brought stability back to our economy, cut NHS waiting lists, improved renters’ rights, began to fix the crisis we inherited in our courts and prisons, reduced small boat crossings, protected young people online, lifted half a million children out of poverty and restored Britain’s standing in the world. He put Britain back at the heart of Europe, stood firmly with Ukraine and rebuilt relationships with our allies.
Change promised, change fought for and change delivered. That is Keir Starmer’s legacy, and I am incredibly proud to have played my part in it.
It can take many leaders years to grow into the statesman you became in just two years.
European and Ukrainian security is stronger because of you.
Thank you, dear Keir.
The Labour Party and the country owes a great deal to Keir Starmer. Brought Labour back from its worst result in living memory. Won a majority at a general election which history shows does not happen often for Labour leaders. And led the country through difficult times. 🌹
Keir Starmer has been a friend and colleague for over three decades, ever since our time as young lawyers. He is man of great integrity who has devoted his career to public service.
Keir has made a huge contribution to the Labour party and our country, and I want to thank him.
This #WorldRefugeeWeek, I’m reminded how food brings people together.
Sharing a meal and learning about different cultures through food helps build understanding, strengthen community ties, and make people feel welcome.

A pleasure to attend the Mayor of Brent’s Reception this evening and mark the start of Mayor @AAgha60 mayoral year.
It was inspiring to hear his vision for Brent and the priorities he has set for the months ahead.
Wishing him every success in the role.
Today is #ThankATeacherDay. I have been so lucky in my job as Minister for School Standards to meet teachers around the country.
I have seen the extraordinary commitment and care of teachers who go the extra mile to create beautiful classrooms, adapt their teaching for the needs of their pupils, open up enrichment opportunities and pass on their passion for their subjects.
I hear from students that a teacher that sees them and believes in them has changed their lives.
As children and young people face new pressures, teachers have stepped up in so many ways to support them. I am deeply grateful for the service of all the extraordinarily committed teachers who broaden horizons every day.

Roy Hattersley delivers a lecture on the importance of Coronation Street - to mark its 30th anniversary.
“Future historians will find no better way of learning about the way we live now”.
Roy Hattersley’s life was defined by service, conviction and a belief that politics can change lives for the better.
His work helped shape modern Labour, and his voice - principled and thoughtful - will be missed.
