@victoriousvices I’ve read many fan fiction that are higher quality than the original canon- movie, tv, books. Amazed by and so appreciative of fan fiction authors, the time they put into their works
fanfiction is a rare gem and a solid, living proof that, in a world of tiktok, influencers and content posting, not everything is about money and going viral. art can still be art just for the sake of the artists' pure love, joy and passion for the art they create. fanfic writers write 100k words and more about the characters they love for free. just because they love these characters and the art of writing so much. art is not dead and the world is still beautiful.
shoutout to fanfiction and fanfic writers
this whole fanfic discourse would be solved if some of yall realized that most fanfic writers do not want to be professional authors and only write as a hobby in their down time after work or classes.
Ugh girl, don’t make me defend a movie studio
The target audience of the Snow White & the Huntsman movies was the inherited audience from Twilight. And both team Edward AND team Jacob took it mighty personally when you cheated on Edward with the married director
There was no way the studio was putting your face on the sequel, and yes, it was totally fair.
In a resurfaced interview, Hugh Jackman spoke openly about one of the biggest problems he sees in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
When asked about the emotional deaths of characters like Gamora, Tony Stark, Avengers: Endgame, and whether those sacrifices ultimately helped or hurt the franchise. He said:
“Marvel keeps killing major characters for these big emotional ‘sacrifice’ moments. It works in the moment the audience feels it, people cry, it’s powerful. But then the stories suffer afterward because those deaths lock the characters out of future movies. Or they have to force messy multiverse and time-travel workarounds just to bring some version of them back.
This isn’t new. It’s been a recurring problem since Stan Lee’s era. They love the big dramatic death, but they don’t always think about the long-term damage it does to the overall quality and potential of the universe. Once you kill someone as important as Tony Stark or remove a character like Gamora in that way, you limit what the stories can do later. I think it’s hurt the MCU more than people want to admit.”
as an english ph.d. student, i love reading fanfiction. the only thing i cannot handle is when people CANNOT PICK ONE TENSE. YOU NEED TO PICK A TENSE. IT CANNOT BE BOTH PAST AND PRESENT AT THE SAME TIME

What is this urge that people have about criticizing fanfic? Because you're obviously not wanting to help anybody, you just want to be an asshole, right?
i actually hate this argument. the open internet isn’t the same as a class environment. i LOVE getting feedback and concrit—from fellow writers who i trust and whose writing i respect. idk what a random stranger has to offer and mean comments aren’t the same as workable feedback
I was a 911 dispatcher for 11 years and this is the worst idea you could possibly think of. You have scenarios where the person can’t speak well either language barriers, injuries or if they’re in a domestic situation and they pretend to call for pizza or something you need a person. You have to be able to determine how someone feels or pick up on what they aren’t saying or how they’re saying things. Same goes for open lines and hang ups. A real person needs to answer the phone not only to ensure the correct response is sent to the right place but to offer piece of mind to the caller and makes them feel safer. Situations where I had to give CPR instructions to a mother and father who’s baby wasn’t breathing was a constant occurrence and you have to be able to calm people down, an AI is not doing that ever. Same goes for dispatching calls, AI cannot do that, in theory it sounds ok for that portion but you have to acknowledge what resources are on hand, where people are, GPS isn’t always accurate so when we started using systems to automatically reroute units who were flagged as “closer” they usually weren’t. But a real person who lives in that county and knows the area, where the stations are, who’s in a move up or coverage or areas that are blocked off due to events that aren’t always in our mapping systems. The list goes on.
Terrible idea
If you don’t realize the difference between willingly attending a class where critique from peers and teachers is part of the package vs receiving unsolicited feedback on a hobby project by some entitled & pretentious stranger from the internet, then you’re just a dick 🤷♀️
people want to treat fanfiction as their source of actual literature nowadays while not paying for it like one does with actual literature... but also wanting to criticize it like actual literature... ??? u can criticize me when u start paying my bills. this is FREE. keyword FREE
