2023 was a big year for bitcoin. at @TaprootWizards we had no doubt as early as last january that we we’re going all in on bitcoin season 2, back when almost no one else saw what we saw.

now everyone sees it. everyone is building on bitcoin now!

bitcoin unironically reminds me of early ethereum vibes these days. tons of new devs showing up, and everyone is racing to build new products, services, and layers.

it's all coming faster than anyone expected and honestly you're not ready for it.

marathon, the largest publicly traded company that's mining company, just announced a bitcoin L2 yesterday. and there are many others teams working on competing L2s. and it'll be glorious.

but there’s one thing that they all need, and don’t have.

we’ve researched this for a year, and we found that there’s no good way to extend bitcoin’s functionality, build new layers, enable faster and cheaper transactions and new usecases, without upgrading the L1 itself.

it’s close, we almost have everything we need, but bitcoin just isn’t fully there yet.

bitcoin season 2 needs OP_CAT.

you see, this isn’t just our little rebellion anymore. bitcoin season 2 is big now. the biggest miners are involved. the largest investors. the most popular exchanges. the entire ordinals community is already checking out L2s and getting ready for the next meta.

when we launched @quantumcats and the OP_CAT campaign, people asked me “but how will you convince miners to support the upgrade? how will you convince developers?”

they didn’t get it. i’m not going to need to convince anyone. THEY’LL BEG US TO MAKE OP_CAT HAPPEN. THEY NEED IT.

many of them already know this, and already asked us for help. i think that some season 2 participants don’t get it yet though.

some people are building basic multisig bridges for their L2s, the type that got hacked every other week last cycle and had people lose billions of dollars.

others are counting on bitvm, which is a really cool nerdy trick, but turns out to be impractical, and also still puts a permissioned council in control of bridged funds.

OP_CAT solves these problems, and it does that effortlessly, with 10 lines of code, using a feature that was already part of bitcoin 15 years ago. we just have to turn it back on, and season 2 is LIVE.

bitcoin WILL have faster trading experiences, better ordinals auctions, deep onchain liquidity, and easy UX. this WILL happen.

OP_CAT WILL happen, because all the biggest ecosystem players will NEED it.

but first, they need to believe it is possible. just like they needed to believe ordinals were possible.

they’ve been lied to by laser-eyes for years, who told them “bitcoin can’t be upgraded”, and “it’s just a pet rock”.

but the ordinals community proved them wrong once. and together we will prove them wrong again.

bitcoin CAN be upgraded, and it WILL be upgraded, and it will happen THIS YEAR. and it will be glorious.
