@blackroomsec In my experience, keeping people at arms length isn't a choice, rather a leftover survival trait. While self-manufactured loneliness is hardly bearable and often crippling, it sometimes appears as a deeply buried low-level subroutine. What doesn't kill you can still break you.
@varcharr I know a CISO who may or may not smoke a lot of weed in the off hours... I think you may have just granted me some an insight into my friend.
Abusive authority would rather beat down the other members of their house than to take responsibility for their own actions.
"Now look what you've made me do."
My pregnant physician wife and I are currently COVID positive. We are currently quarantining with our 2 yo daughter who is likely also positive based on symptoms. We have both been working in hospitals taking every precaution humanly possible, especially because of the pregnancy.
My mom passed from COVID tonight. She started symptoms June 20th, was in hospital by 24th, intubated by 30th and passed at 7:15 tonight, the 6th.
Wear your masks, stay home, send love and make sure you have a will.
RIP Rene, we love you forever.
Police human-trafficking child-rape house found by citizens. Police show up, "search", insist no one is inside. Later they cover the victims in tarps and quickly wisk them into vehicles to a new house. Citizens find evidence of the heinous crimes committed here.
This is the issue w/ many “reforms”: yes, you can pass certain laws, but the problem is police *breaking the law.*
Murder is already illegal, but the officers who killed Breonna Taylor STILL haven’t been arrested.
Taking on that abuse of power often takes major political risk.
Story I learned last night:
I started Girl Scouts in first grade and was an active scout until I was 17 (12th grade)—did ALL the GS stuff and loved my scouting experience. I was a GS national delegate.
My troop, 1001, was in Detroit and almost all black.
@julesmgmt Our police budgets are insanely high when compared with cities in other countries that have far fewer incidents. Giving police free reign results in inflated sense of importance, military gear to use on citizens and increased aggression towards opposition.
@julesmgmt Defund the police isn't suggesting the police are abolished though. It's about cities not giving the majority of their budget to police, rather allocating more to education, health, marginalized neighborhoods, etc. The police would exist, but smaller with less tools of oppression
