Hi! My name is She Coder. I am Her Majesty, Queen of Code 👩🏾💻
I founded @womenintech_mw with a hashtag in hopes that my name shows up when someone searches for women in tech from Malawi. Called it a community for a while cos “organization” felt too big.

Hosting & facilitating a bootcamp for TWO whole weeks isn’t for the faint of heart.
But you know what? We’re at the finish line and I can’t help but feel so emotional 🥹
Today’s lesson was simple:
If you’re going to build technology, you should understand how to protect it.
Thank you to Jacqueline for introducing our participants to cybersecurity, online safety, cyber threats, and why security matters from day one.
#DreamItBuildItLaunchIt
Today reminded me that beginners don’t struggle with moving between screens.
They struggle with understanding what Navigator.push() and Navigator.pop() are actually doing.
So I wrote a guide to make Flutter navigation easier to understand

Day 2 of Week 2
Today the girls continued exploring Flutter widgets and learned how to navigate between screens
We also said hello to Olga, who will be teaching Systems Thinking tomorrow. We’re excited!

Today our participants were inspired by Dr. Rachel Sibande
She spoke about innovation, self-belief, overcoming imposter syndrome, and not letting other people’s opinions limit your potential.
Girls can build.
Girls can innovate.
Girls can lead.

Before Flutter… you need this
What is a Native App?
Why does it matter?
And why do apps behave differently on Android vs iOS?
I broke it all down for beginners here:

Today, I decided to teach one overlooked skill: finding answers when you’re stuck… You won’t have to memorize things but be resourceful enough to get out of a jam… that was the goal and they learned quickly as they all build UIs independently.
I’m a proud Tutor!
Google is a skill.
Week 2 started with the girls building their UIs independently and learning where developers find answers.
The girls are building and they are winning.

One of my biggest dreams is to build a company that creates opportunities for women who started later than expected.
Internships and graduate trainee programs for women in their late 20s and 30s. Remote jobs for women in their 40s and 50s.
Day 5 ✅
More Flutter. More widgets. More progress.
The girls spent today bringing their apps to life and refining their designs. We also talked about the importance of showing up in tech, sharing your work, and building in public.
The future is looking bright.
A great product deserves to be seen.
Today, our #DreamItBuildItLaunchIt participants learned about digital marketing from Tanya Chireshe exploring how to reach users, tell compelling stories, and grow what they build.
Because building is only half the journey. Launching matters
Day 3: The girls wrote their first lines of code.
After 2 days of designing, we’re now building in Flutter led by @QUEEN_SheCoder .
Watching participants go from “I’ve never coded before” to creating actual user interfaces is why we run this program.

I haven’t taught anyone Flutter in over a year… I haven’t spoken about it in a long time too. Tomorrow, I take up the stage. Feels like first day of school after summer
Day 1 of Dream It, Build It, Launch It Cohort 2
126 applied. 15 selected. 10 showed up ready!
By the end of today’s UI/UX session, one participant discovered design can be a career on its own.
Day 1. Perspectives already shifting.
#DreamItBuildItLaunchIt#WomenInTechMalawi
Day 2 and the girls are already designing in Figma. Learning wireframing and prototyping… turning ideas into real app screens.
This is what happens when girls are given the tools to build, not just consume technology.
Follow us to stay up to date for the Cohort 2 journey
