It's too soon for me to feel like saying much, especially since I'm about to go to Fan Expo and cry with my friends; so instead, here are some pics that made me smile. 1) him fixing my flat 2) hugging my hubs at our wedding 3) Pirates 4) crying together over anime
Love you, Mike
Mike McFarland helped me find my boy voice during an early recording session. It changed my career in a way I never expected. I’ll miss our conversations about music, movies, and food. I’ll miss his hugs and royal waves. Rest in peace, Mike. It was an honor to be your friend. 🕯️
Mike McFarland brought so much to all of us who knew him, and to all of the anime fans who knew his work. He was an incredible talent, a good friend to so many of us, and will be sorely, sorely missed. ❤️
There are so many things I want to say, but I feel like all the words are out of reach. Mike was a great guy, funny, immensely talented. He always tried to improve himself both as an artist and a person. He challenged me greatly as a new actor. I'm so glad we took this picture.
There is cruelty in the unpredictability of life. Random and raging, it takes out those who love it most without a second thought.
Mike McFarland was THE living embodiment of carpe diem. He didn't let ONE day of his gift of life go to waste. He traveled, he experienced, he raved, he rocked, he learned, he played... he saw the fruits existence had to offer sitting on the proverbial top shelf and always found the ladder. Built the ladder, more often than not.
Mike was taken from us disgustingly early - a foul, unspeakable injustice, a violent tear to the tapestry - and no amount nor quality of words I could write will ever relate the utter anguish this scars into me, into us. And yet, the last thing he would have ever wanted was for this to bring us to sour on life in his absence. There is no life worth living without risk. Mike loved risk, and living a full life is the greatest gamble of all. That's the point! That's what makes it exciting. And even though the house won in the end, the stubborn bastard had a hell of a streak, and a hell of a hand.
If minds were cars, Mike had a fleet of Maseratis in his head. Smooth, articulate, elegant, eloquent, sharp as a dagger, with the kind of recall that would make RAM blush. It didn't matter what it was, or how vaguely you described it: if it was a movie, a song, a story, Mike would know the title within a few tries. He seldom paused for 'uh's or 'um's - when he spoke, you were engaged and fascinated. He was everything I admired in an intellectual and all I still strive to be. Not just as a mind, but as a heart.
Mike was about community. He loved people. It takes a village, as they say, and he built a village everywhere he went. As Chris Bevins once proclaimed, "Mike McFarland would attend the opening of a candy bar wrapper" - If you invited him somewhere, he would show up, because he understood that showing up is the most important thing a human can do to show they care. And if you were a guest at a convention with Mike, you were going to dinner with him. Plain and simple, no exceptions. If you missed a Mike outing, you were missing out on a core memory. He would take massive groups of us to the best food spots in town, having planned everything meticulously in advance. He loved to make the people he loved smile, and he knew just how to do it.
So I'm going to smile. I will grieve, but I *will* smile, because that was why Mike loved life. To be happy and to make others happy. To impart knowledge. To entertain. Mike would want us to look at all he's done and smile. Join me in giving him that, at least. When all is taken away, turn to your purpose. They can never take that.
"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all."
Mike lived.
We didn’t get to hang out a lot, but the times we did were always fun. I remember when we did a con together and it was pretty dead so we were able to get to know each other better outside of work. These are the only pictures I could find of us (thanks Trina)
What do you say when nothing feels like enough. Mike McFuckinFarland. You were a light. You made everything feel brighter. Love you friend.
Miss you forever.
The most talented, generous, warm & funny soul. He embraced experience, would fly across country randomly to see a favorite band, champion the underdogs & hug you with deep meaning. Like so many others, He changed my life & gave me a forever family. Miss & love you deeply, Mike🖤
Our Starman has made his way home ✨
Mike taught me two things for which I’ll always be grateful…
You do not need a life-changing diagnosis to live your life to the fullest.
And you do not need a crisis to let your loved ones know how deeply they are cared for.
You always had the best food recommendations and the best outlook on life. You loved so widely and fully. Your light will shine on through the countless lives you’ve touched. A spirit that came through this world and left it a better place. Thank you for everything. 💗💗💗
Mike McFarland was a legend, but more importantly he was a good soul. I’ll never forget running into him twice at one of his favorite restaurants. I’m so grateful that we got to make so much art together, and that what we made will outlast us both. Rest well friend. ❤️
Mike McFarland was a legend among us. He had so much passion for the things he did, in acting, directing, singing, fitness, and traveling. Mike was extremely versatile and knew his craft well - he was the guy to shadow in sessions if you wanted to be a great director or engineer.
You made so many of us laugh with you. You carried so many of us into better, more fulfilling lives. I'll always be honored that I got to know you, to share in your humor and laughter, for the trust you put in me, and so much more. Love you, Mike. Thank you for everything 🕯️
