A prime minister who spends more time on planes than in the House of Commons isn’t leading. He’s managing decline with better branding.

Huge win for free speech and religious freedom.

A Quebec court has ruled that the provincial government and former Tourism Minister Caroline Proulx violated the Charter rights of Harvest Ministries International by cancelling their Christian conference because of the group’s pro-life beliefs.

The Court found the minister acted without legal authority and arbitrarily denied access to a public venue based on viewpoint.

Lawyers funded by the Justice Centre successfully represented Harvest Ministries International. The minister was ordered to personally pay $30,000 in punitive damages.

Government officials do not get to shut down events they disagree with.

Military chaplains are now prevented from offering prayers at military ceremonies and are instead directed to provide non-religious “spiritual reflections.”

For years, Conservatives like myself warned that the steady erosion of religious expression in public life would eventually lead to faith being pushed out of our public institutions.

The government’s response was to dismiss those concerns, insisting that we were spreading misinformation and that no one was trying to remove religion from the public square.

Now this directive has been adopted.

Our military chaplains have faithfully provided prayer, comfort, and spiritual guidance to the brave men and women who serve our country for generations.

Canada should protect the freedom of those who wish to pray, not silence it. We should be defending the religious freedom of our service members and chaplains, many of whom have served, fought, and even given their lives to defend the very freedoms we now risk restricting.
