I get people talk in the moment and sensationalism sells. But some of the bollox I’ve seen about Usyk’s performance is off the scale. One person said in my comments that he got “slaughtered.” Utter nonsense!

You have to add context to this. Rico proved us all wrong. He made it far more competitive than most thought. But just because someone does better than expected, doesn’t mean you give him rounds. Every round was competitive. But how many times was Usyk hurt or in trouble? How many clean shots did he actually take?

The reality is, even though it was a tough fight, he was never in trouble. I’m in awe of how he finished Rico. The knockdown was heavy. An uppercut right on the jaw that nearly sent Rico out of the ring. If he would have got up and went to the ref, it would have got called off, as his legs were wobbling. Hence why he did the smart thing and spat his gum shield out.

I’m hearing people say he’s not p4p #1 after this performance. Rubbish. A champion isn’t just about winning fights comfortably. It’s what happens when the chips are down and you’re in trouble of losing a fight. What are you going to do in that moment? Usyk steps up time and time again. Incredible mindset. The bloke is a winner. Always finds a way to win. This should be celebrated!

Usyk is held to such high standards that a close fight gets magnified. He’s an incredible ambassador for boxing. He deserves far more respect. To get Kabayel in the ring when Usyk hadn’t even done his interview was disrespectful. Time and a place. You don’t do that to such a legend. You have some respect!

The hate for Usyk after the fight yesterday is unbelievable. He's basically cleaned out the CW and the HW division of all top rated fighters and has an off night in an exhibition type fight at 39yo, and still gets a KO by the way, and people say he's not an ATG. SMFH!

@HamedBoxing I think the stoppage was early but this whole ‘fraud checked’, ‘legacy ruined’ chat is ragebait. Usyk landed more on stats, was more calm and was hurting Rico last rounds also knockdown and then > 6 unanswered shots. Also Rico is a boxer just k1 + he outperformed big time

@ColmMcGuigan Let’s be honest, we don’t need to go down that path, yes it wasn’t great for him but he didn’t win a decision that was clearly for Rico, he was probs gonna flatten him 2 mins later and it only went down to the wire cos of the drama with the gum shield, what a warrior Rico is tho!
