As we approach the long-awaited release of v2.1 on the Quilibrium Protocol, we want to take a moment to thank you, our community, for your unwavering support.

The reality is stark. The world we live in is neither safe nor truly free. Our privacy is constantly threatened, our voices censored, and our digital lives surveilled. This is not how the Internet was meant to be.

That is why the Quilibrium Protocol is not a luxury. It is a necessity. The Internet must remain free. Your privacy must be protected. Your right to speak must be defended.

For many of you, this update marks the end of a long and frustrating wait. For us, it is only the beginning. Quilibrium v2.1 lays the foundation for everything that comes next. Our commitment is clear. We will continue working until every corner of the Internet is secure.
Until that day, our mission remains unfinished.

2.1 is coming 👀

I feel a need to break my silence ahead of the Q 2.1 launch (again) to give an update on progress and address some of the community frustration (mine included).

It's tough for all of us and it's fair to feel let down. I've collected some answers to FAQs to hopefully help shed some light on what's been happening and what's next.

1️⃣Why do we keep missing the communicated release dates?
Building something like Q is insanely complex. As seen in the latest Github pull request (https://t.co/432EqTLTDa), Q consists of millions of lines of code all working in harmony to provide a powerful, robust new Internet layer. Cassie is undoubtably a gifted developer but even gifted developers can struggle with accurately estimating the work to the next milestone.

She recently used the analogy of a (extra large) Rubik's cube--there is a methodical approach to solving it but knowing exactly how many steps in advance is exceedingly difficult, especially when you can't see all sides at once. Moreover, there is no incremental release when it comes to 2.1: it needs to fully work as intended while being resilient to bad actors.

Cassie has done everything with an abundance of caution: full test coverage (something many other major L1s do not have) and rerunning tests to confirm nothing has broken along the way. Creating the tests themselves took time, running them took time, and as issues were uncovered, solving them took time.

A few weeks ago, she had her "eureka" moment where the last of the issues uncovered in the tests was solved, and she gave a release date based on her understanding at the time of how much work was left to get code-complete and cut the builds. In the process of debugging the issues, a lot of code was inserted to troubleshoot. Unwinding that code carefully is a process, and she underestimated the effort involved. Moreover, what she hasn't shared publicly is she has had to tend to family emergencies at home while this was all going on. These are very human situations that are not easy to predict, so some patience and understanding from all of us is important.

No, she is not intentionally delaying the release to time the market. No, she is not intentionally delaying the release to cater to partner interests. No, she has not run into some new bug or blocker that she has yet to solve.

2️⃣So when will 2.1 come out?
Despite the setbacks, Cassie is working hard on wrapping this up. Her latest update is that there are 48 debug sections left to remove. Sections are not equal in effort, and their removal is not trivial due to the nature of how they are embedded.

She is close but will not be giving a concrete release date until she is code-complete and builds are with the release signers. We can all agree that hard lessons have been learned about communication, but there is a finite amount of work in front of her--this WILL happen.

3️⃣What can we do to contribute while we wait for 2.1?
Cassie has to focus on getting 2.1 out the door, that is priority one and where the majority of her time is focused. In parallel, her colleagues have been working on Quorum updates and will be looking at some public demonstrations soon to collect community feedback. Your participation is greatly encouraged. More on this to come.

The mission remains the same, and the world needs Q now more than ever. There is much to look forward to. Keep the faith everyone, we're almost there.
