And this is why Bayern Münich is one of the best clubs in the world, the demand is extreamly high, the club is 16-0-1 and still makes the fans and media wonder if Kompany is good enough for us, man I love this club.
Did Kompany coach poorly against Union? His decision raises questions
Following Bayern's 2-2 draw at Union Berlin, a debate has erupted over coach Kompany's personnel decisions. Sky expert Lothar Matthäus questions whether the Belgian rotated his squad too little after the energy-sapping Champions League match in Paris.
“I knew it would be a difficult game. I was surprised that there was only one change to the starting lineup after that intense game in Paris – and you could see that in the game,” Matthäus explained after the game.
Compared to the 2-1 win against Paris Saint-Germain, Kompany had only brought Leon Goretzka into the starting lineup in place of Aleksandar Pavlovic.
Kompany responded to the criticism from the record-breaking international with clear words: “I made seven changes compared to the last Bundesliga game. Harry Kane didn't play against Leverkusen. Lucho Díaz only played 45 minutes in Paris, and Michael Olise didn't start against Leverkusen either.”
The Bayern coach emphasized that his team was physically and mentally prepared for the multiple demands: “These are guys who are used to playing three times a week.”
At the same time, Kompany admitted that his team had a difficult start to the game in Berlin: “In the first half, we didn't have the right mental attitude. That changed after 30 minutes. Otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to get back into the game.”
What do you think? Would fresh players have helped Bayern more, especially at the start of the game?
