Hi X. I'm Muhammad, an indie dev in Perth. I build Vape Buster, an iPhone app to help people quit vaping: puff counter, quit plan, craving support. This account used to sound like a brand. From today it's just me, building in public. #buildinpublic
@frmtradedrm Cutting a feature because it didn't speed up the core action is a tough call. I'm building Vape Buster and keep asking the same thing: does this help the one thing people came for? What was the hardest part to let go of?
@FredTheBoyBlue Kicking smoking, vaping and drinking all at once is a huge thing to pull off. Hope the coffee keeps the new routine feeling good. Proud of you for sticking with it.
Solo devs: do you post release notes on X, or only the story behind them?
My feature posts have done worse than anything personal so far. Trying to learn why.
@Bud_B_Fire Day 1 is the hardest decision, and you made it. Congrats. Take it one craving at a time and keep some water close when one hits. Proud of you for starting. Day 2 is next.
Design decision I keep coming back to: a slip shouldn't wipe out your week.
So Vape Buster's Monitor tab shows the whole week against your plan's limit. One rough day is one bar, not the whole chart.
Would you design it differently?
@dividends_guod1@ApesAlphaHQ Quitting both smoking and vaping within a few months is a big deal, well done. Hope you're proud of that. Anyone reading this who's in the middle of a quit: it can be done.
@fusionsunsolar Thank you, that means a lot. Building this solo from Perth, so kind words like yours keep me going on the long days. Appreciate you stopping by!

Why I'm building Vape Buster: I want to help people quit vaping, and most quit advice ignores the moment a craving actually hits.
That's why the app leads with a timer counting up from your last logged puff, not a lecture.
Indie devs: how did you get your first users without paid ads?
I'm a solo dev on a quit-vaping app and X has been quiet so far. Honest answers welcome.
@mikey1090 Thanks Mike, this is really useful. I'll spend time being genuinely helpful in the quit communities before mentioning anything. Appreciate you taking the time.
A craving feels like it'll last forever. It usually peaks and passes.
What I design for: give your hands one thing to do until it passes. Water, a short walk, gum.
What's your go-to swap?
Hi, I'm Muhammad and I build Vape Buster. If you want to try it, it's on the App Store: https://t.co/VoIn6QkQ4O
It's a support tool for quitting vaping, not a treatment.
Slipped? One rough day isn't the whole week.
Recommit. Count the times you didn't reach for it. Work out what caused it.
Vape Buster's Monitor tab shows your week against your plan's limit.
What helps you?
https://t.co/VoIn6QkQ4O
Craving hit? Breathe in slowly through your nose, out slowly through your mouth. Repeat 10 times.
Smokefree's tip. Cravings are common, and temporary.
What do you do when one hits?
Vape Buster: https://t.co/VoIn6QkQ4O
Quitting vaping and still patting your pocket for it? That's habit, not failure.
https://t.co/lOhDCQAxs8's tip: give your hands and mouth a replacement. Sugar-free gum, crunchy snacks, doodling, a phone game.
What do your hands do now?
Quitting vaping? Write down your why.
https://t.co/qFSILwAM8k's tip: list your reasons (health, family, sleep, money, feeling hooked) and add photos of what's motivating you.
Read it back when it gets tough.
What's your why?
Just quit vaping and feeling foggy, restless or on edge? That can be nicotine withdrawal.
https://t.co/qFSILwAM8k: it's usually strongest in the first week, and for many people it fades after about 2-4 weeks.
Which symptom is hitting you hardest?
Quitting tip for tonight: hard days blur together, so take a minute before bed.
1. How strong were cravings today?
2. What was the hardest moment?
3. What would help most tomorrow?
Then plan one thing for that moment.
What was yours today?
