Rumour has it that when President Moi visited Nigeria in 1981, he signed a special deal to honour Nigerians in a unique way.
In 1985 he launched the 5 bob coin shaped exactly like a Nigerian head. Kenya kept its word.
Kenya got super rich.
Sorry I meant ONE Kenyan got SUPER RICH the past years.
While most Kenyans struggle to make ends meet.
🚨 KENYA’S DEBT & CORRUPTION BY THE NUMBERS: WHERE DID THE TRILLIONS GO?
While ordinary Kenyans struggle with high taxes and poor public services, high-cost infrastructure loans combined with persistent corruption have drained our national treasury.
📊 THE INFRASTRUCTURE BILL (IN SHILLINGS)
• Mombasa–Nairobi SGR: ~Ksh 490 Billion ($3.8B)
• Nairobi–Naivasha SGR Extension: ~Ksh 193 Billion ($1.5B)
• Eurobond Sovereign Issuances: Over Ksh 1.2 Trillion ($9B+) borrowed from commercial international lenders at high interest rates.
Total cost? Over Ksh 1.8 Trillion on just a handful of megaprojects—many constructed at bloated prices per kilometer compared to regional standards.
📉 CORRUPTION INDEX SCORE: 10 YEARS OF STAGNATION
According to Transparency International (Score out of 100, where 0 is highly corrupt):
• 2015: Score 25 (Rank 139)
• 2018: Score 27 (Rank 144) — Height of NYS & Dam scandals
• 2022: Score 32 (Rank 123)
• 2025: Score 30 (Rank 130)
Kenya remains stuck in the bottom 30% globally, scoring 30/100—well below the Sub-Saharan African average (32) and global average (42).
💔 THE RESULT ON THE GROUND
When megaprojects are inflated by 20%–40% in kickbacks and debt is taken on at commercial rates, the outcome is simple:
1️⃣ Over 60% of tax revenue goes to debt interest, not hospitals or schools.
2️⃣ Roads deteriorate because maintenance funds are diverted to debt service.
3️⃣ Doctors and civil servants remain underpaid while debt principal mounts.
Kenya does not lack resources or revenue—it suffers from inflated contracts and systemic leakage.
I truly believe Kenya has everything to thrive. Except a competent integer leadership.
The system is utterly corrupt & literally 90-99% of people on the ground & even online agree.
🇰🇪 needs air to breathe & I hope it will get it asap before it drowns in debt & crimes.
Wishing all Kenyans a fair, prosperous and safe future & society!
@The_Neighbor_Ng If you made ₦1,000 a day, it would take you 500 days to earn KSh50,000. 😭 Imagine needing 16 months of wages to reach one average Kenyan salary, sit this one out. 💀
