He thought he had a mezuzah…

But when we opened it, we discovered something surprising: instead of a handwritten kosher scroll, there was only a photocopy.

A mezuzah case is beautiful, but it's the parchment inside—carefully handwritten by a scribe—that makes it a mezuzah.
