THIS is why we will have PTSD when this is over, whether there’s a surge or not. And I suspect some nurses will retire or just leave the profession altogether when the pandemic is done.
Pt’s husband was also a pt in our ICU. Hospitalist came to tell her he was coding. He did not make it. She wasn’t allowed to go down there to see the body and her family member that came to comfort her could only stay an hour.
THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL! PRE-traumatic stress disorder.

My dental hygienist found a popcorn kernel(I had some last night) in between my teeth during my cleaning today and I was originally embarrassed. Then I remembered I found several washcloths under a patient’s abdominal/breast folds the other night and I wasn’t so ashamed.
@OnlyintheICU That’s part of the AIDET technique. T being the thank them for choosing your hospital/for their patience during your shift. It’s a great technique though! My previous hospital used it and my current one is trying to implement it.
Especially when those ppl “will never do charge” so they never have to deal with the other stressors or making the assignments or late call-ins or ppl just finding every fucking thing to complain about.
STFU. AND. DO. YOUR. FUCKING. JOB.
It’s funny when ppl complain about having to get report from multiple ppl. If you did the standard 2-3 min bedside report, it wouldn’t take long.
And have your shit together.
And round on your pts before shift change.
And by “funny”, I mean annoying AF.
