My dad just had a feeding tube inserted as part of all the complications caused by having #Covid. I wasn't thrilled about this but then realized that after 25 years of my mom's cooking, it's probably a welcome thing.
Just received a message, “Your dad is coding.”
I thought, “Oh good... he’s learning a valuable skill while he’s been in the hospital with #Covid for 8 weeks.”
Turns out, there’s no skill. He’s just dying now.
For every famous political figure exposed at these events, there’s going to be a non-famous staffer who never makes the news, who doesn’t have the same access to rapid testing and treatment, and who had no say in the choice to eschew basic safety measures for symbolic reasons.
Our friend Pamela just told us that “According to Jewish tradition, a person who dies on Rosh Hashanah, which began tonight, is a tzaddik, a person of great righteousness.” We found that very comforting. So strange to be eating these apples and honey with this sadness.
