@thesnookerhall Discussed on today's Snooker Scene podcast. What options were available? Not "foul and a miss" because the red was hit. AFAICT, the only remaining option in the rules is "unsporting conduct". The referee can give a player a warning, or award the frame or match to the opponent.
@EndofFrame The 2024 Scottish Open final had no centuries, although that was best of 17. The 2024 International Championship final had no centuries, if you require a best of 19.
@voooolare There was the Coral Cup and ยฃ100,000 bonus for the player who got the most prize money in the three tournaments (similar to the BetVictor bonus) but that only lasted one season (2019-20 season). Stephen Maquire won the bonus and said in the interview he would buy some socks.
@TSnooker102 It was supposed to be a best of 27 final in 2020 (see March 2020 edit of https://t.co/NVQuEDhyOp) but when rescheduled it became best of 19 throughout because it was easier to manage with Covid restrictions. Unfortunately they subsequently decided to stick with best of 19.
@WineRackPod@esel_freund Tickets are on sale for next year - a good sign the event will continue!๐It is the end of the original 10 year Home Nations contract but the series will continue into next season at least. The Welsh Open next year finishes on Valentine's Day instead of St David's Day.
@InTheBalls147 I also find it hard to stay up in the evening to the end of a best of 11. To be expected as I'm 6 months older than John. But I also usually get up early in the morning.
@InTheBalls147 After the first round there is a long time until the second round. But from the quarter-finals onwards, you play everyday from Tuesday until Monday, sometimes two sessions a day. So I can see age being a factor at the Crucible but less so at other tournaments.
@InTheBalls147 Higgins was in the afternoon semi at both Ally Pally and Telford and lost both finals. Trump said he was exhausted after the world semi in 2022 so he was poor at the start of the final, but that semi was in the afternoon so he had nearly a whole day to recover.
@InTheBalls147 When the final is next day, you would think the winner from the previous evening should be at a disadvantage. But look at recent Crucible winners. They have often played on the previous Saturday night before the final.
@InTheBalls147 There are more complaints when they have to play at 10am. The 10am matches are sometimes prioritised for the Chinese players as it is a good time for TV audiences watching in the evening in China.
@InTheBalls147 Commentators and journalists have said over the years that snooker players are typically a nocturnal bunch, which makes sense. They don't have to get up early for a morning commute like a typical office worker.
@InTheBalls147 From about 40 to 20 years ago, snooker was dominated by the under 30s. You used to be considered past it at age 40. The current era with so many top players over 40, never mind 50, is the anomaly.
@Nick_Metcalfe on @RadioSnooker shared the excellent viewing figures for the Players' Championship on @channel5_tv. Being on a bigger linear channel makes a difference even it today's world of on demand streaming. This is good news for the future of the sport in the UK.
