Gary Bettman said there's strong interest in NHL expansion, but the league isn't ready to expand yet.
"But we are exploring those expressions of interest."

Bettman, who turned 74 today, says he’s had talks about “what a succession plan might look like.” The Board has also been made aware, but nothing is imminent.
Bettman says NHL revenues are in between $7.5 billion to $8 billion this season. Revenue is up across the board. The NHL has also signed on new TBA sponsors and close to adding more. Canada’s new national TV deals coming up will also factor in to continued rev growth.
On NHL expansion: NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman confirms, again, there’s interest from groups/markets for a new NHL franchise, but adds the NHL is not considering expansion at this time.
The Penguins could announce the completed sale of the franchise from Fenway Sports Group to the Hoffmann family sometime in June.
Per @TheAthletic, the transfer of power is expected to happen sooner rather than later after the sides agreed to a deal in December.
