whitney houston's performance of our national anthem is peerless. she hits that thing with an ease, and a joy and a mastery that changes the cells in your body.
i think about it a lot in contrast to how she was treated by american culture at large during the struggles in her life. it's heartbreaking, and a pattern we are, by now, very used to.
"whitney houston's national anthem" is one of my favorite songs i've ever been a part of... magnified by the fact that my actual, real life musical heroes - The Indigo Girls - sang the 2nd and 3rd verses (and harmonized with me!) on the album version.
and i'm no expert, but it's safe to say san francisco has the best looking ballpark in baseball.
"you pull the rip cord / i'll crash the plane / you move closer / i pull away / the meaning keeps changing / the words are the same / we're still pretending we're not who we are / america's sweetheart / we tore her apart / everything magic disappears anyway"

The @SFGiants went 0-6 on their homestand. The Elias Sports Bureau says it’s the first time since 1896 (!) that the Giants franchise has been swept in a homestand of six games or more. ⚾️ @KCBSRadio
Check out this time lapse of the Pillar Point Harbor in Half Moon Bay. Notice the abrupt up and down motion of the boats. A tsunami is not just one wave. It's a packet of waves that can last for several hours. This rapid surging of water can create dangerous currents.

Chuck Mangione, 'Feels So Good' musician and bandleader, dead at 84 https://t.co/ELsRGibJOb
Back when I was a teenager, my dad and I went to see Chuck Mangione play. He was great, but what I remember most is that Chuck’s proud father was working the merchant table! RIP Chuck.
Having worked there for five years, greeting visitors, and knowing what condition it is in, I can say the cost of converting it back into a prison would be exorbitant.
President Trump said Sunday he is directing his administration to reopen and expand Alcatraz, the notorious former prison on an island near San Francisco. https://t.co/950VOqow59
This wave at Mavericks was captured by photographer Frank Quirarte and may have been a world record breaker. A surfer from Santa Cruz, Alo Slebir, caught it on Dec 23. Some say it was 100-feet, smashing the previous record set at Nazare.
