Just after midnight police pulled over and arrested a gang member who wasn’t wearing a patch but was displaying gang insignia on the dashboard of his car

In an under-reported decision this week the govt cut funding for apprenticeships in road construction & maintenance, bitumen surfacing, pipeline construction & maintenance, drinking/wastewater treatment, and a range of other trades. Who do they think will fix our infrastructure?
No project with #conservation impacts like this should be fast tracked under legislation in which considering environmental implications is not part of the purpose of the law. This #Makaroro River dam proposal was previously stopped by #NZ Supreme Court: https://t.co/yJaKtK6B8r
The National government has the wrong priorities.
It’s scaling back the new Dunedin hospital, skimping on new facilities at Nelson Hospital and making cuts to hospital staffing and after-hours services.
But there’s plenty of money for landlord and tobacco company tax breaks.
There’s an astounding irony in giving tax cuts to tobacco companies while cancelling hospital builds because we haven’t got enough money.
How the fuck are they getting away with this?
In the most spectacular public display of buyers remorse yet since the coalition govt took power less than 12 months ago, National voters today joined 35,000 others in Dunedin representing more than a quarter of the cities population to protest against the downgrade of their new hospital.
1News reporter Lisa Davies reports on this and similar protests held in Westport & Reefton, “on a day when southern regions united in a chorus of discontent”.
Who would have thought, it’s more economically, socially & politically sustainable to spend 2.9 billion on landlords than use that money to help address the country’s worsening health crisis!

Flames turned up on associate health minister https://t.co/iIaAucwsVx
Why hasn't this woman been sacked @chrisluxonmp? No other minister has ever had such a list of proven grounds & reasons, like her withholding info from Cabinet, lying & her blatantly advocating for big tobacco!
Culture wars over transport don’t serve #NZ well. Balanced approach needed across road, rail, public transport, walking, cycling. Can Infrastructure Commission try to build consensus? Otherwise more stop/go on ideological grounds is inevitable. @TeWaihanga https://t.co/FWJkiBXGiB
Now out from paywall. Privatisation turned our gentailers into cash cows that paid $10.8 billion in dividends in the last decade while increasing generating capacity by 1%. This is now destroying manufacturing employment. Nothing to do with offshore gas. https://t.co/r3in9ZwGSK
Months of dry weather, falling gas reserves and rocketing wholesale electricity prices. Cue Associate Energy Minister Shane Jones to the rescue …
