@rBillSimmonsPod I think this part of the broader death of comed films. Not only is Will Ferrell not Will Ferrell nobody else is either. There is also no current equivalent to Judd Apatow.
@Casebradford@reddy2go What does sprint fast mean to you? Do you have a metric your measure against? I am trying to get my 100 under 13 seconds again that seems to be a the 2x BW squat equivalent for speed
The good you may see in a specific movie is not the good itself, there are many subsidiary goods and they can be in competition with each other. What seems most salient will depend on the individual the goods I focus on do not include seeing movies like this.
I mostly avoid hollywood movies and have for years my life has become better for that.
@benryanwriter I don’t see that. Most critics of the casting seem to believe it’s going to be a financial hit and an overall well made move. It’s possible to be against some casting and realize movies and shows can be very successful despite it.
I also want to say I can respect the liberal(not woke) position on this I can empathize with where it comes from and i think it’s fine to enjoy this movie. I just don’t to be lectured at that i should see it and ignore the issues.
Some mutual understanding would be appreciated but that seems unlikely.
I really don’t care if it’s the greatest film since Citizen Kane.
After years of this, i am completely uninterested in anything with race blind casting or promotion of transgenderism. Those are both disqualifying.
Movie might be great. It might make a billion or more. I don’t care.
I won’t give it my money or attention
I’d much rather spend the time reading the book.
Get on the same page with your wife about boundaries and how to enforce them.
Expect around 2 years of decreased libido in your wife if she breastfeeds.
Limit screen time.
Make sure there ample opportunities through childhood for outdoor unstructured and risk taking free play.
Roughhouse with your kids daily
Take your wife on weekly dates and sustain romance. A good marriage is the great boon to your children.
Start thinking about the books, movies,
TV shows that build values you want in your children.
But also be ready to flexible kids have to adapt to the broader culture to.
On the topic of the potential beauty and power of stories of marital romance.
The most erotic and romantic period of my life was at 42 when my wife and I reunited after a seperation of 4 months.
Our marriage had been stressed for a number of year, I had meant to work on it and the underlying issues on my side driving dysfunction, but had been deprioritizing it for work.
She couldn't continue in that vein.
To work through my issues(downstream of sexual abuse) I did 6 days a week of IFS therapy and one day a week of somatic therapy for six weeks, I followed that up with 3 psychedelic therapy sessions over the course of several months
After the first intense bout of therapy we started sitting together for two hours talking every night, working through her pain and fears.
While this was going on both of her parents health started collapsing and she was flying in and out of town to care for them.
Somehow despite everything gong on we made it work and 4 months after we separated we reunited and the next 6 months were so addictively erotic we were were actively hoping for things to calm down. Things did calm down eventually but to very health place. We still run into struggles but our bond is stronger now then it was for all but the first year of our 20 some years together.
The way the whole thing played out felt like a beautiful romantic movie, but I couldn't think of single novel or movie that captured that dynamic.
I see lots of stories of divorce, or of of love found again with someone new, but very little of the renewal and sustenance of romantic love, in the middle of adulthood with children and careers and dying parents.
That I think that is a story we desperately need as a culture.
Whenever you take the role of the teacher, you take some of the initiative from the student. If you do not have a plan to reintroduce that to them, you will not produce masters -- only followers.
@BMcGrewvy Yeah making your movie a vehicle for one of the most damaging social contagions we have seen is a hard no for me. I don’t care if it is otherwise the greatest film in history.
My latest conversation with @DrJohnVervaeke was sparked by my exploration of the western canon.
My question is how reading literature can be treated as practice which like movement. A practice that has central nodes that have exceptional pay off. That in some sense undergird everything else we would want to understand.
How then do we find the vital nodes for yourselves at given moment in our development.
That is the topic we take up, John challenges my assumptions right away and the conversation moves in interesting and profound directions.
