Proud to share that, for further increasing the safety and confidence of women in our city, Kolkata Police is launching two more initiatives from today.

First, several all-women Pink Booths at key city intersections will be commissioned and be operational from evening to midnight, today onwards. My sisters in the city will be able to connect directly with the lady officers of KP for any assistance in these booths.

Second, today evening onwards, several 'SHINING' (as I have named them) all-women mobile patrol teams will also be on duty from 8 pm to 2 AM, patrolling E.M. Bypass and other major city roads used by my working sisters during night hours.

Kolkata continues to be the safest city in the country over the years and I am sure these two unique new initiatives will go a long way in furthering the same.

Mahatma Gandhi used to say that the moral worth of a society is revealed in the way it stands beside its most vulnerable.

That principle found clear affirmation in Nandigram, where twenty-three residents referred through Sebaashray underwent free cataract surgeries at Kalyani Eye Care, seventeen identified at Camp 1 and six at Camp 2.

For many, failing vision had meant restricted movement, reduced work, and a gradual withdrawal from daily life. This was not merely a medical procedure; it was the restoration of independence, confidence, and dignity. Healthcare cannot operate in fragments. It cannot stop at diagnosis or end with an announcement. It must guide a person from need to relief, from identification to full recovery.

Sebaashray was conceived with that continuity at its core, so that no citizen remains suspended between illness and care. That responsibility endures, and we remain committed to upholding it with seriousness and resolve.

The developmental momentum of the Maa-Mati-Manush Sarkaar continues with vigour and purpose.

Smt. @MamataOfficial inaugurated the Jain Manastambha, the gateway of Sant Kutiya Gurdwara, and a newly constructed five-storey, state-of-the-art fire station at Tollygunge, each project reflecting GoWB's commitment to inclusivity, public safety, and modern infrastructure.

She also inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for a host of developmental initiatives spanning Diamond Harbour, Birbhum, Hooghly, Bankura, Purulia, and Howrah.

Bengal has emerged as the top-performing state in the country in small savings schemes, securing the first position nationally with deposits of approximately ₹2.06 lakh crore during FY 2024–25.

At a time when personal savings rates have shown a declining trend across the country and household savings have weakened, posing broader challenges to economic stability, Bengal’s performance stands out as a testament to public confidence, financial awareness, and inclusive growth.

Among the various instruments, the Monthly Income Scheme has attracted the highest deposits, amounting to ₹66,149 crore, followed closely by Time Deposits at ₹60,928 crore. Recurring Deposit accounts have mobilised ₹14,109 crore, while Public Provident Fund (PPF) accounts have garnered ₹9,608 crore. Within the state, Post Office Savings Accounts have seen the largest outreach, with 84.80 lakh accounts opened, followed by 50.20 lakh Recurring Deposit accounts.

These achievements underscore Bengal’s disciplined savings culture, robust grassroots financial networks, and the trust that citizens repose in secure, government-backed instruments. We remain committed to strengthening financial inclusion, encouraging responsible savings, and building a resilient economic foundation for the future.

An unprecedented collapse at the hands of the Election Commission, and Bengal continues to pay the price. What should have been a routine voter roll revision has been reduced to chaos, driven by @BJP4India’s diktats and facilitated by a pliant @ECISVEEP.

Consider the facts:
👉 Total Logical Discrepancy cases: 1.36 crore
👉 Cases still undecided: 50 lakh
👉 Judicial Officers available in Bengal: 250
👉 Even at an extraordinarily optimistic disposal rate of 250 cases per officer per day, clearing this backlog would take nearly 80 days. The February 28, 2026 publication deadline is, therefore, plainly unachievable.

This crisis is entirely of ECI’s own making; mass deletions over minor spelling variations, surname differences, routine address changes, and, most alarmingly, opaque and unverified AI-driven exclusions. Instead of safeguarding democratic participation, the Commission has jeopardised it.

In order to prevent irreparable damage, the Supreme Court has now had to step in, enabling the Calcutta High Court to seek assistance from serving or retired judicial officers of the High Courts of Odisha and Jharkhand. Such intervention underscores the gravity of the failure. Every legitimate voter has a constitutional right to be on the electoral roll. That right cannot be diluted by incompetence, bias, or political design.

.@ECISVEEP has effectively lost control over the conduct of the SIR process in Bengal. The terms are now being clearly dictated by the Hon’ble Supreme Court, as consistently urged by Smt. @MamataOfficial.

In an unprecedented move today, the Supreme Court was compelled to permit the deployment of judges from neighbouring states to address the massive bottleneck created by the Election Commission’s sheer incompetence and administrative failure. This intervention itself speaks volumes.

At the same time, the Court reiterated that ALL documents notified by the ECI, or subsequently cleared by the Supreme Court, including Aadhaar and Madhyamik admit cards, must be accepted for the disposal of pending claims and objections. This categorical direction dismantles the BJP-ECI attempt to arbitrarily shift goalposts and manipulate documentary standards.

The conspiracy to selectively target, intimidate, and harass voters in Bengal has once again run into a firm judicial barrier. Institutions must function within the bounds of law, not at the behest of partisan interests.

Shocked again!

Yet again, our Prime Minister aggressively displays his cultural insensitivity to great figures of Bengal. Today is the janmatithi of Yugavatara (God's incarnation in our age) Sri Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsadeva. While trying to hail the great saint on this occasion, our PM added an unprecedented and improper prefix to the great saint's name, “Swami”!

As is well known, Sri Ramakrishna was widely revered as Thakur (literally, God). While his ascetic disciples constituted the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission after their Master's demise, and those monks were then called “Swami” as per Indian traditions, the Master, the Acharya, himself continued to be referred to as Thakur. The prefix “Swami” was meant for his disciples in the Ramakrishna Order; but the holy trinity of the Order remained Thakur–Ma–Swamiji. Thakur is Sri Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsadeva, Ma is Ma Sarada, and Swamiji is Swami Vivekananda.

I urge the Prime Minister kindly not to discover new prefixes and suffixes for the great Renaissance figures of Bengal who shaped modern India.

Is the @ECISVEEP of the view that directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court can be openly FLOUTED? The highest Court of the land has repeatedly emphasised transparency, due process, and adherence to official channels of communication. Yet we are witnessing instructions being circulated over WhatsApp rather than through formal, traceable, and accountable mechanisms.

Even more disturbing are credible reports of Special Roll Observer, C. Murugan, issuing instructions regarding the acceptability of birth certificates directly to Micro Observers in a WhatsApp group, to inflate deletion numbers. Need I remind the ECI of the Supreme Court’s categorical directive that the role of micro-observers must remain strictly assistive? Why, then, is statutory procedure being bypassed, and under whose instructions?

Additionally, Roll Observers are designated district-wise, yet it is seen that login credentials linked to these observers are being accessed from a central location in Kolkata. Login Data is being misused to generate queries and specifically target a certain community at the direction of ECI’s political masters in Delhi. Should this matter be independently examined, it will be established that the tower location and IP address of the login device differ from the actual location of the concerned roll observer.

The Election Commission derives its legitimacy from PUBLIC TRUST, not POLITICAL PATRONAGE. We shall pursue this matter before the highest court of law. Further, any person aligning themselves with or acting at the behest of Zamindars of Delhi will face stringent and uncompromising legal action. Brace yourselves!

SIR is riddled with fundamental flaws, as pointed out by Smt. @MamataOfficial:

1️⃣ Overnight, a new category of “logical discrepancies” was introduced, and 1.36 crore voters were summoned for hearings.

2️⃣ Women who had legally changed their surnames after marriage were summoned and subjected to unnecessary humiliation. Voters were harassed over minor mismatches or address changes, with marginalised communities disproportionately targeted.

3️⃣ Without any clear statutory basis, micro-observers were appointed in Bengal, despite having little understanding of Bengal’s ground realities.

4️⃣ These micro-observers were granted backend access to portals, enabling deletions from the electoral rolls.

It is the people who determine the outcome of an election. Yet @ECISVEEP appears intent on securing a BJP victory even before the votes are cast.

After the murder of Sukhen Mahato, @BJP4India leaders rushed to declare that no identity-based crimes were being committed against Bengalis. But the numbers tell a different story.

According to data released by the West Bengal Migrants Welfare Board, 12 Bengali migrant workers have been murdered in other states. Ten of those cases are reported from BJP-ruled states. Four in Maharashtra. Two in Odisha. One each in Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam. Alongside these deaths, there are 1,143 documented complaints of physical and mental harassment against Bengali-speaking migrants.

When migrant workers are detained on suspicion, when Bengali-speaking citizens are profiled and asked to “prove” themselves, when poor labourers are harassed, threatened, deported, or brutalised because of their language or place of origin, it stops being random crime and starts resembling systemic hostility.

An atmosphere is being cultivated in which Bengal and Bengalis are portrayed as suspects. India’s unity was not built on uniformity. It was built on constitutional guarantees of equality before law, freedom of movement, protection from discrimination. Migrant workers do not surrender their dignity when they cross state borders within their own country.

So this is what “Beti Bachao” and “Nari Shakti” have been reduced to? A woman in uniform, performing her duty and upholding procedure, is publicly shouted down for refusing to bend the rules.

It appears that @BJP4India’s Haryana Minister @anilvijminister cannot distinguish between jurisdiction and insubordination. The Superintendent of Police was professional. She was respecting the chain of command and the rule of law.

But that is precisely what unsettles a Nari-Birodhi BJP, women in authority who cannot be browbeaten, who know the law, and who refuse to surrender institutional integrity for political theatrics.

If this is how a senior police officer is treated in full public view, one shudders to imagine the everyday indignities faced by women without rank or visibility.
