If you see flags at half-staff as this week begins, it’s in honor of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day (May 3). On May 9 beginning at 11:15 a.m., the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation will hold a memorial service at Nash Square in downtown Raleigh.

Another day with low relative humidity and gusty winds is expected on Wednesday. RH values will drop to 15-30% Wednesday afternoon along with wind gusts up to 30 mph. A statewide burn ban remains in effect.

Increased Fire Danger is in effect through 8PM for the western Piedmont and Sandhills. Very dry fuels along with gusty winds and low relative humidity. The NC Forest Service has issued a statewide Burn Ban.

Helping people and their best friends! Engine 3 firefighters treated this dog at a house fire this week. Engine 12 first to arrive and Squad 7 firefighters found the dog and safely brought her outside. She’s recovering well. ☺️
