SonyLIV: Monopoly Meets Mediocrity

If this is how TV channels plan to win viewers online, good luck.
Just look at SonyLIV, showing the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in India.
Wrong tiles. Wrong event information. You click, discover something else is playing, hunt for the right stream—and every fresh click means another minute-long ad. Honestly, how many times must one sit through the same corporate foundation propaganda?
And then comes the commentary.
Viren Rasquinha is the obvious exception. He is sharp, knowledgeable and someone who actually understands sport. And the rest? Pedestrian sports knowledge accompanied by verbal diarrhoea.
One commentator announced that Ancy Sojan had lost the long jump gold “by a few metres.” 😳😳😳
It was 2 cm.
During the mixed 4x100m relay, Gurindervir Singh was repeatedly called “Gurvir”.
He is India’s 100m national record holder. Surely knowing his name is the bare minimum for someone being paid to commentate on Indian athletics.

Bad interface. Bad information. Endless ads. Commentary that often makes you reach for the mute button.

But when you have a monopoly, why bother?
The sports fan has nowhere else to go. SonyLIV knows it.

@raghav_chadha I don't really see how the change from 13 to 12 recharges a year will help user as the price will surely be hiked.....BUT I do find the move the mandate voice only plans as a hugely POSITIVE move! Millions of Indians have second sim that doesn't require data plans.

@_jiddu I had virgin mobile when I was in college, loved it...they used to offer a plan where you earn 1p/min on incoming calls!!!! How far the telecom market has fallen in India...sad.
