1990s MPC + digital processing

Dre’s major technological tool was the Akai MPC3000. By the late 1990s/early 2000s, it was essentially the central sequencing instrument in his studio. His engineer described the MPC3000 as the “brain” of the setup.

The MPC wasn’t AI. But it was already doing things that today might feel “intelligent”: sequencing, sampling, timing manipulation, triggering sounds and electronically constructing arrangements.
