Today is Memorial Day in Newfoundland and Labrador.
On this day in 1916, 780 men with the Newfoundland Regiment charged into battle at Beaumont-Hamel. Only 68 soldiers answered roll call the next day.
That sacrifice is honoured at the Beaumont Hamel Memorial.

Though his life was far too short, his legacy continues to grow with each passing generation.
Today, on behalf of a grateful people in @CityofPoCo and beyond, we humbly laid flowers at Terry’s resting place in the community he called home.
Thank you, Terry. Port Coquitlam will always carry your spirit forward.

For the past 48 years, Terry Guillon has been a respected employee of the Parliamentary Press Gallery and the Prime Minister’s Office, helping journalists do their vital work in our democracy.
Terry remembers working alongside my father in the late 1970s, and I had the privilege of working with him when I was an assistant in Prime Minister Chrétien’s office in the 1990s.
This week, the G7 Summit in Évian, France, marked an important milestone for Terry – his final international trip with the Prime Minister. We took this picture on our flight back to Canada this past Wednesday evening.
Thank you, Terry, for your decades of service. I wish you a well-deserved retirement.

The G7 Summit in France delivered important results for Ukraine. Most importantly, we agreed on additional strengthening of Ukraine’s air defense. There will be new steps to put pressure on Russia over its war – pressure for the sake of peace. Our partners will ensure support for our defense and energy resilience.
It is important that we have a shared understanding of the main challenges and concrete steps to respond to them. Our global unity is truly reducing Russia’s ability to continue this insane and criminal aggression against Ukraine. I thank everyone who is helping us!
Ukrainian culture has been an integral part of Canada’s identity since Ukrainian immigration first began more than 130 years ago. Today, close to 1.4 million Canadians can trace their family heritage to Ukraine. They are nation-builders in every way. Much to celebrate! 🇺🇦🇨🇦
