China is a major economic partner and a permanent neighbor; ergo, the Philippines cannot relocate its geography. Diplomatic retaliation, deteriorating bilateral relations, and potential economic repercussions are worth considering if you're thinking at all.

Note that China will remain our neighbor regardless of who occupies the White House, who becomes Philippine president in 2028, or how many additional military facilities become available to American forces on Philippine soil.

This is not an argument for surrendering Philippine maritime rights. It is an argument against mistaking confrontation for strategy and dependence for sovereignty.

So, DO IT, BBM! And let's see how such a decision shapes the remainder of your presidency, and, more importantly, what it means for the Filipino people.

Because when political theatrics collide with geopolitical realities, it is ordinary Filipinos who may end up paying the price.
