एशिया की सबसे लंबी सुरंग 'जोजिला टनल' परियोजना आज एक ऐतिहासिक क्षण की साक्षी बनी है। जोजिला के मुख्य सुरंग में आज जम्म��� और कश्मीर केंद्र शासित प्रदेश के उपराज्यपाल श्री @manojsinha_ जी, मुख्यमंत्री श्री @OmarAbdullah जी, सांसद गण, लोक प्रतिनिधि तथा अधिकारी और उपस्थित गणमान्य के साथ ऐतिहासिक ब्रेकथ्रू का साक्षी बना। मुख्य सुरंग में यह ब्रेकथ्रू केवल निर्म���ण कार्य की प्रगति नहीं, बल्कि भारत की तकनीकी दक्षता, इंजीनियरिंग क्षमता और अदम्य संकल्प का प्रतीक है।

जोजिला टनल परियोजना जम्मू- कश्मीर और लदाख के बीच ऑल-वेदर कनेक्टिविटी का और इन्फ्रास्ट्रक्चर विकास यात्रा का महत्वपूर्ण अध्याय बनकर उभर रही है। राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग-1 पर बालटाल से मीनामार्ग तक निर्मित की जा रही लगभग 14 किमी लंबाई की द्विदिशीय जोजिला टनल 6,800 करोड़ रुपए की लागत से विकसित हो र��ी भारत की सबसे महत्वाकांक्षी पर्वतीय अवसंरचना परियोजनाओं में से एक है। 2900 मीटर से 3310 मीटर की उँचाई के बीच निर्मित यह परियोजना विश्व के सबसे चुनौतीपूर्ण भूभागों में भारतीय इंजीनियरिंग क्षमता का अद्भुत उदाहरण प्रस्तुत कर रही है।

अत्यधिक हिमपात, कठिन मौसम और जटिल भू��र्भ परिस्थितियों के बावजूद भारत के इंजीनियरों और श्रमिकों ने इस चुनौतीपूर्ण कार्य को वास्तविकता में बदल दिया है। इस परियोजना से जुड़े सभी इंजीनियरों, श्रमिकों, कन्सल्टंट्स, कॉन्ट्रॅक्टर्स, संपूर्ण एनएचआईडीसीएल टीम और स्टेकहोल्डर्स को बधाई और उनका अभिनंदन!

सुरंग में यात्रियों की सुविधा और सुरक्षा के लिए आधुनिक वेंटिलेशन सिस्टम, ऑटोमैटिक फ़ायर डिटेक्शन, एडवांस्ड CCTV सर्विलांस सिस्टम, पैदल यात्रियों के लिए क्रॉस पैसेज सुविधा उपलब्ध होगी। साथ ही स्नो लोड और जियोलॉजिकल खतरों से सुरक्षा के लिए 8 कट-एंड-कवर सेक्शन, 4 पुल, 40 पुलिया, स्नो गैलरी, कैच डैम और एवलॉन्च प्रोटेक्शन स्ट्रक्चर, हिम स्खलन सुरक्षा संरचनाएँ, संपर्क मार्ग और अत्य��धुनिक सुरक्षा व्यवस्थाएं इसे विश्वस्तरीय इन्फ्रास्ट्रक्चर का स्वरूप प्रदान करती है।

जोजिला टनल केवल एक सुरंग नहीं, बल्कि विकास का एक द्वार है। इस सुरंग के निर्माण के बाद सोनमर्ग से मिनामार्ग तक की लगभग 2 घंटे की यात्रा घटकर मात्र 30 मिनट रह जाएगी। इससे समय और ईंधन की बचत होगी। दुर्घटनाएं एवं हिम स्खलन की जोखिम में कमी आएगी। क्षेत्र में पर्यटन और व्यापार को नई गति मिलेगी तथा सीमावर्ती क्ष���त्रों तक पहुंच और अधिक सुदृढ़ होगी। राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा की दृष्टि से भी यह परियोजना गेम चेंजर साबित होगी। वर्ष भर संपर्क उपलब्ध होने से भारतीय सेना की आवाजाही तथा सेना सामग्री, उपकरणों और रसद की आपूर्ति अधिक तेज, सुरक्षित और प्रभावी बन सकेगी, जिससे देश की सामरिक तैयारियों को नई मजबूती मिलेगी। यह परियोजना स्थानीय लोगों के लिए रोजगार, आर्थिक अवसर और बेहतर जीवन गुणवत्ता का आधार भी बनेगी। साथ ही यह परियोजना ऑल-वेदर कनेक्टिविटी स्थापित कर क्षेत्रीय विकास और राष्ट्रीय एकीकरण को नई शक्ति प्रदान करेगी।

The 13.153-km Zojila Tunnel, the world’s longest single-tube bi-directional road tunnel at the highest altitude, and its final breakthrough will be a historic milestone in India’s infrastructure history.

Located in the Zojila region between Baltal (Sonamarg) and Meenamarg (Drass & Kargil) in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, the project is being executed to provide all‑weather connectivity across one of India’s most challenging Himalayan corridors, which remains cut off for long periods every year due to heavy snowfall, avalanches, and extreme weather conditions. Positioned at an elevation of about 11,578 feet above sea level, the tunnel represents one of the most significant engineering achievements in India’s mountain infrastructure sector.

This video reminded me of one incident from my first job.

I was a young Site Engineer on a 100 luxury villas project in India’s first planned hill city, somewhere deep inside the Sahyadris.

Beautiful landscape.���Rolling hills.
Cold breeze.

And rocks the size of small planets sitting exactly where our foundations needed to go.

Drill hammers tried their best.
Nothing moved.

That’s when my boss decided we would go for controlled blasting.

Now my boss was from Bihar. A brilliant man. But when stressed, his Hindi acquired such colourful vocabulary that even labourers listened respectfully.

He called the blasting vendor.
Holes were drilled into the rock. Explosives packed in. Wiring done. Entire setup ready.

But it got late. So blasting was postponed to next morning.

And just before leaving site, my boss casually destroyed my peace of mind.
He said, completely straight-faced:
“Dev… agar raat ko lightning gir gaya toh charge udd bhi sakta hai.”

I laughed nervously.
Then he pointed downhill.

About thirty metres away stood a fully completed luxury villa recently bought by the MD of a listed forging company. Apparently the gentleman wanted a place near the golf course where he could change clothes before playing.

If the blast damaged even one glass panel in that villa, both of us were finished.

My boss looked at me and calmly delivered the final punchline:
“Dev, kuch hua na… toh aap aur main dono boriya bistar leke company se bahar.”

That night I checked the weather forecast more seriously than farmers during monsoon.

Every cloud looked suspicious.
Every distant sound felt like lightning personally coming for my appraisal cycle.

Thankfully, nothing happened.
Next morning the blasting was done remotely.

Boom.
Steel plates jumped slightly.
Dust rose everywhere.

And the giant rock split clean through the middle.

Perfect cut. No flying debris. No shattered villa. No angry golf-playing MD.

Tiny episode in hindsight.
But for one full night, two civil engineers were mentally halfway between project execution and unemployment.

Construction industry teaches you many things.
Mainly that crore-rupee risks are often discussed in the same tone people use while ordering chai.

BORING NEWS: The Boring Company has confirmed they are building Prufrock MB-3!

Per an April 22nd email from TBC to The Tennessean News Outlet, "Expect to see larger iterations between MB2 and MB3 once we have data from Nashville and can optimize accordingly."

They expect to ship MB-3 to Nashville this summer!
