Full interview after match with Yuki Ishikawa and Ran Takahashi:
-Today's match was against Japanese champion Suntory Sunbirds. Looking back, how did you feel?
Yuki: Well, I didn't start very well in the first set, but I found a good rhythm in the second half. There's still a lot to work on, but I'm happy we managed to win.
-Takahashi's match was against European champion Perugia. Looking back, how did it go?
Ran: I'm really happy that a top-level team came to Japan, and we were very happy to be able to play against them. Even though we lost in the end, we knew there were some things we could learn from Perugia, and we'd like to learn from them and become stronger.
- What do you think were Perugia's strengths?
Ran: We managed to find our rhythm in the first set and win, but from the second set on, they really improved their quality, and we couldn't find our rhythm and lost the second, third, and fourth sets. So I thought the way they improved their team strength was really impressive, and all their play was top-notch, so I was reminded once again that they are a top-notch team.
-This was Ishikawa's first match on home soil for Perugia. How did you feel about it while playing?
Yuki: Exactly. I've been playing in Italy for a long time, and this is my first opportunity to play in front of a Japanese crowd like this, so I'm very happy. There's still tomorrow, so I hope to work even harder to put in an even better performance so everyone can enjoy it.
-Today's match is, above all, a showdown between two of Japan's best players, and it will be their first match in Japan. Speaking of which, what did Ishikawa think of Takahashi's game as he approached the match?
Yuki: Having my teammates, members of the Japanese national team, as opponents was a new experience for me, and they played very well. I had the feeling that their natural defensive strength was what you'd expect from champions, Suntory, so I'm sure tomorrow's match will obviously be tough, and I really want to demonstrate our strength in this arena.
-Takahashi, how did your match against Ishikawa go?
Ran: He's a really reliable teammate, but it can be difficult to fight against him when he's your opponent, and when it came to the crucial points, I was once again impressed by his incredible skill.
the fact that he was beaten by a top-level team, reminded me once again that he's one of the best players in the world.
-Finally, Ishikawa has a request for all the fans ahead of tomorrow's second match.
Yuki: Thank you so much for all your support today. This is my first opportunity like this, and I couldn't wait to play this match myself, so I'm very happy to be able to play in front of all of you. We have another match, so I want to show even higher quality volleyball again tomorrow. I'm sure you'll all come to the stadium again tomorrow. Please support us.
Ran: I'd also like to say a few words on behalf of Ishikawa. Thank you for coming despite our busy schedule on a weekday. Thank you all, I really enjoyed today's match, and I want to show even higher quality and higher level volleyball again tomorrow, so I hope you all enjoy it. I'll do my best. Please support me. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's match. Thank you so much.
Ran Takahashi after challenging Yuki Ishikawa:
He's a really reliable teammate, but he can be difficult to fight against when he's your opponent, and when it came to the crunch, I was once again impressed by his incredible skill, and the fact that he was beaten by a top-tier team, and I was reminded once again that he's one of the best players in the world.
