💧Water security cannot be achieved without nature!

At the #WorldWaterWeek2026 in Stockholm, Flore Lafaye de Micheaux, the Senior Advisor for Europe, contributed to the session “Restoring Freshwater Ecosystems Underpins Societies, Economies and Sustainable Development”, highlighting a fundamental message: healthy wetlands are essential infrastructure for building water resilience. She also met with Jenny Lonnstad, Sweden’s National Focal Point for the Convention on Wetlands.

@siwi_www also provided an opportunity to celebrate Professor @KavehMadani, recipient of the 2026 Stockholm Water Prize. The Convention congratulates Professor Madani on this well-deserved recognition of his major contributions to the field of water.

We commend @siwi_water, the City of Stockholm and their partners for providing, through @siwi_www, an important platform for open dialogue, knowledge exchange and collaboration across sectors and stakeholders.

As discussions in Stockholm have reinforced, building a water-resilient future means working with nature. Wetlands must be part of the solution.

#UNCCDCOP17: At the high-level session “From Victoria Falls to Ulaanbaatar: wetlands as the heart of integrated land and water resilience”, one message came through loud and clear: we cannot tackle drought and land degradation without healthy wetlands.

As the #WetlandsCOP15 Presidency, Zimbabwe underscored the importance of protecting and restoring wetlands as part of efforts to strengthen water security, build resilience to drought and support healthy landscapes. Honourable Dr Evelyn Ndlovu.

Each restored wetland means cleaner water, fewer disasters and a stronger foundation for resilience. If we want reliable water both now and for future generations, we must protect the ecosystems that sustain it.

#ExcitingNews: The Republic of Korea has designated its 27th #RamsarSite. Madongho Wetland is a brackish estuary with changing levels of salinity and seasonal fluctuations in water levels that support a mosaic of interconnected wetland habitats.
