Some people start whining when an actor/technician/filmmaker, long associated with independent cinema, slowly transition to mainstream cinema. Suddenly, words like "sell out", "zero integrity" or "spineless" are thrown around. Well, at a time when working in mainstream cinema itself doesn't guarantee prompt/full payment (it's even worse when "progressive" filmmakers don't pay their actors), how do you expect someone who didn't come from privilege to stay with "broke ass" cinema for a long time? Sometimes their circumstances force them to work with someone they don't like, someone ideologically opposite... So easy for people on social media — to be specific, the privileged folks with enough free time on their hands — to pass such lazy judgements. They're not going to pay their bills, are they?
👋What did you learn from the Satluj movie?
1. Despite the names of tainted officers surfacing in the kidnapping case, they were not suspended until the High Court intervened.
2. Despite eyewitnesses, the CBI could not secure the custodial remand of those officers. Had they done so, Jaswant might have been saved.
3. Despite all their power and influence, those officers ultimately lost everything, their name, power, position, and even their lives.
Because arrogance never tells you where to stop.
The 20,001st crime, just "one last kidnapping and murder," ended everything.
This is a lesson for every police officer who believes that politicians or senior officers will protect them forever.
Never fall into the trap of illegal power or the race for promotions.
This artificial life doesn't just end badly, it ends in the worst possible way.
Revisitng my thread on one of the greatest human rights activists of India from the most troubled 1990s.
My salutations to Sardar Sri Jaswant Singh Khalra who allowed the lamp of activism to burn bright in the darkest times.
All must read this thread to enlighten themselves.

#Satluj is NOT available anymore on ZEE5!
Those who saw it in 24 hours: know how powerful it was!
Censorship in such a way is deeply problematic!
Movies across the political spectrum should exist: it should be the prerogative of the audience to accept or reject a film!
At a time when we have films rewriting history to suit the narrative of the ruling party, #Satluj reminds us democracy thrives when we question those in power.

🚨Corruption At Its Peak In Madhya Pradesh.
A fearless young journalist has exposed the massive corruption in road construction, bringing the issue into the spotlight. 👇
Even if you believe in existence of God, remember, God doesn’t need your money to survive or live lavishly. The money you give in name of God just enriches those who do business in the name of God. Rather use it to help the needy around you. God, if it exists, will be happy
They tried to kill the film with 120 cuts and blocked its theatrical release. @HoneyTrehan still stood his ground and released it on OTT. The performances are phenomenal. This is what violence looks like, ugly, brutal, and anti-human, not macho stunts.
Watch Satluj #Punjab95
But @Suvinder_Vicky’s best turn still is as the troubled traumatised aging truck driver Ghalib facing obsolescence at work & loss in life in IvanAyr’s MeelPatthar also on Netflix. Watch if you haven’t already
Repeating what I said 3 years ago when #Satluj was #Ghallughara & #Kohraa hadn’t started streaming. @Suvinder_Vicky is a scaldingly scary presence as Sugga. Saw him first in GurvinderSingh’s exploration of the paranoid 80s Punjab in #ChauthiKoot, which should be on @NetflixIndia
#BabyDoDieDo is smart & slick. Director Nachiket Samant & co-producer & lead @humasqureshi give us a female assassin to root for. There is mayhem but also the sweetest love story, some killer jokes and Mumbai as co-lead - rainy, neon-lit, crumbling. It's really fun. #dowatch
