Five Island Lake: 12X9 Watercolor on #140 Fabriano Hot-Pressed: This is the lake that Dawn and I grew up on right in the middle of Emmetsburg, Iowa. It was an excellent lake for largemouth bass and Northern Pike. I spent many hours contemplating here as to the things I wanted.
Low Tide at Staithes โ I painted this 9x12 piece in pen & ink with soft pastels on #140 Strathmore. I wanted the scene to present the quiet tension of boats stranded on the mud, the red buoys and hulls pulling the eye against a brooding sky.
Dusk Falls on The Road to Malaga: 5X7 Pen & Ink hit with soft pastels on #140 Strathmore: done as a demo painting for Seabourn at a bus stop on the way to the ship. The large bull statue is left over from a debunked advertising campaign for some kind of Spanish liquor.
Turkey Tailed Barn Iowa: 9X12 watercolor on #140 Arches hot-pressed: This is a common scene in Southwest Iowa in the spring as many of the fields are cleared for planting. Can you guess why this is called a turkey tailed barn
Here we are at Robinson Crusoe Island with my first demo painting, a little 5X7 watercolor on #140 Arches hot-pressed. Many of my students got the technique of scraping the mountains in with their credit cards right away.๐
Bora Bora: 5X7 watercolor on #140 Arches Hot-Pressed, painted early in the morning as the sun came up over the ruined volcano core. Such a lush island so full of life. Painted from our anchorage near Taha.
