US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is visiting Reliance Industries’ Jamnagar refinery in Gujarat, the world’s largest single-site refining complex, on a trip focused on energy and business ties.

The visit comes as Washington looks to discuss increased processing of Venezuelan crude, lower fuel prices and reducing reliance on Russian oil. Jamnagar’s refining capacity of 1.4 million barrels per day and its role in global fuel exports make it a key player in these discussions.

The visit also comes amid efforts to finalise the long-pending India-US trade deal, which Rubio says is “weeks, not months” away. However, tariffs, India’s Russian oil purchases and US visa restrictions continue to put pressure on bilateral ties.
