To all my new followers, I will always look to be as respectful as possible in any thread even when others don't show that kindness.
I also don't believe in blocking accounts unless they are pushing links to websites constantly. The echo chamber is the death of democracy.
This is where you are wrong. When you buy a share of the company you are giving the company money that they can use to do things like hire people and pay payroll. That is the whole reason to go public which is a form of fund raising. A company especially startups give shares as compensation to employees. Outsiders buying shares keeps that value high. This depending on the company/industry this is a high risk high reward investment.
They can't sell the stocks... Stocks are only worth something if they sell at an agreed upon price ahead of time. If executives sold the value tanks combined with losing voting power within their companies. Them holding stock doesn't take anything from you or I. They need to deliver value in order for the estimated price to stay. Value in the form of goods/services worth having. If you think you can do better start a company, get it to IPO and then you make the decision how to best use your "wealth"
@iam_biglad1 Government interference has cause most of the issues. Free market capitalism has done its magic. The cost per watt of solar panels and batteries has cratered giving rise to electric vehicles lawn equipment, and more. It will continue to do so and everyone benefits
It is his company. If he sold the stick he would loose ownership and voting rights. Also corps have rules against executives selling too much stock at once because it damages the company... People that own stock are not hoarding a stockpile of gold... It's all estimated value until it is sold. Last time he sold stock he paid rightfully 11 billion in taxes the last time he sold stock.
You don't need to be a trillionaire like Elon to be successful. He just happens to be a successful trillionaire. Him having that much equity doesn't mean you have less. You just sound like sour grapes. I'd rather live in a world where you can be anything you want rather than someone saying you can't do something. Because the government says so.
@MonchoSpace@omgsidewalks@grok How many people does Elon musk employ at all his businesses and how many jobs are created in support of those businesses?
@ScottTomasski@BeingJWood@dojphofficial "surveillance capitalism"? How do socialist/communist societies exercise control in the way some of your policies advocate for? Look at China and their social credit system...
Many Europeans live in village/small communities that are able to keep families together. If you are not in rural America most communities have gentrified to the point that younger generations are priced out of the communities that they grew up in. We had to move an hour away from grandparents to find a house we could afford.
You shouldn't expect anything then time and family support from your parents. They worked hard and saved for that money. You don't know what kind of medical situation they might run into when they are older especially as we live longer. If parents want to donate or help that's great but to assume you are owed something because they made good choices is just entitled.
@acnewsitics No one forces you to buy products. You choose to does your money in capitalism. Socialism the people have no choice and eventually innovation dies.
If the government can tax your wealth then they can take everything including your homes. The government won't stop at billionaires. How do you tax illiquidity? Will you force people to give up their companies? Most millionaires are such because of their homes? What if you couldn't pay the tax? Does the government put a lien on your house? That blocks you from selling and refinancing. Slippery slope an not a place I'd want to live.
@GunnelsWarren I'd happily pay taxes when the government can guarantee with evidence that there is no fraud, or corruption. That the money earmarked for a cause actually in its entirety goes to that cause. Until then I'll happily vote against taxes with every fiber of my being.
