how the Pirate Shop token actually works, straight from the game files (part 1)

the treasure hunt has 16 prizes in a table called DT_DelilahTreasureHunt_Prizes. every prize has a setting called PreRollMode. the token (DelilahTreasure_6, "Pirate Shop Access") is the only one set to PreRollOnly. the other 15 are all AttemptPreRoll.

it's also the only prize handed out through Clover (DelilahTreasureHuntCloverRewardGrant). Clover is Epic's server that keeps count of the tokens. the config has two URLs for it:

.../prizes/{prizeId}/prize-reservation
.../prize-reservation/claim

the game also has a RequestPrizePreRoll function, and every prize request carries the chest ("Container") and a "bPreRoll" flag.

put together, it most likely works like this: the match server reserves a token from Epic's stock and ties it to one specific chest before anyone opens it, then claims it when that chest gets opened. a chest that wasn't picked can't give the token, no matter how or when you open it.

what's proven and what isn't:
- proven: only the token is PreRollOnly, and only the token goes through Clover
- inferred from the names: exactly when the pre-roll happens
- not in the files at all: the odds, how many tokens exist, or how a chest gets picked

so there's no trick. more chests = more chances. part 2 covers how the other prizes work.
