Who Will Judge the Judge?

There was once a country where everyone was taught:

“Nobody is above the law.”

The police were told that.
Politicians were told that.
Bureaucrats were told that.

One day, a law student asked his professor:

“Sir, if a police officer abuses his power, who judges him?”

“The courts.”

“And if a politician abuses his power?”

“The courts.”

The student thought for a moment.

“Then who judges a judge?”

“A higher court.”

“And who judges the higher court?”

The professor paused.

“The system has mechanisms.”

The student asked:

“And if those mechanisms get compromised ?”

The professor closed his book.

“Then you have reached the boundary of the question.”

Years later, that student became a judge.

One day, a lawyer stood before him and asked:

“Your Honour, if a judge is wrong, who will hold him accountable?”

The courtroom went silent.

The judge looked at the lawyer.

Then at the bench.

Then at the emblem above him.

And suddenly the entire courtroom understood the irony.

The man sitting there had the power to decide whether everyone else was right or wrong.

But if he was wrong…

there was no ordinary citizen sitting above him asking, “Your Honour, now you answer to me.”

That is the uncomfortable question nobody wants to finish:

Who judges the judge?

Because if the answer ultimately becomes—

“Nobody.”

—then “nobody is above the law” was never a principle.
It was only a line written for everyone below the bench.
