Developed by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and American Headache Society, the updated guideline replaces recommendations issued in 2012 and covers pharmacologic prevention of both episodic and chronic migraine in adults.
The updated recommendations that are creating the biggest difference from the older guidelines include calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)-targeted therapies and placing greater emphasis on individualized treatment selection based on patient priorities.
"This brings together evidence on newer and established therapies to help clinicians choose among them based on efficacy, tolerability, long-term safety, and cost", said Burch, associate professor of neurological sciences at the Larner College of Medicine, University of Vermont in Burlington.

People with newly diagnosed MS on b-cell depleting medications (ocrevus/rituximab/kesimpta/briumvi) had fewer relapses and new MRI lesions, but disability outcomes were not clearly better than those on oral/injectable agents (European observational study) https://t.co/Txj9DDipZn

Multiple sclerosis (MS) may be marked by problems with the body’s ability to make new mitochondria — the small structures inside plant and animal cells that serve as tiny power plants for turning food into usable energy. #multiple_sclerosis

A decade-long study using precise kidney function measurements challenges concerns about dietary protein harming kidney health in adults largely free of chronic kidney disease.
"Our findings from a population-based cohort with repeated iohexol-based GFR measurements over 10 years suggest that higher self-reported protein intake is not associated with GFR decline. These findings indicate that protein restriction may not be a lifestyle strategy for preventing CKD," wrote the authors of the study. https://t.co/PIZJEFRQIv
