Hotel owners have been squeezed for two years: U.S. rate growth turned negative last year while insurance, energy, and labor costs kept climbing. Now Hilton is responding, cutting loyalty fees by 30 basis points and rolling out a new program called RISE that discounts fees for hotels hitting rising guest-experience benchmarks.

CEO Chris Nassetta calls it a top priority: "We're spending a huge amount of time on this." But there's nuance here too: royalty fees, which flow straight to Hilton's bottom line, are untouched, and management/franchise fees actually rose 6.4% year over year. A follow-on effort called "RISE II" is reportedly already underway to dig further into the hotel P&L.

Enjoy a POV ride-through on the reimagined and refreshed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and here are my thoughts:

- The ride is incredibly smooth and has not lost a bit of speed! 🚂

NOTE: Watching the video back, I realize how smooth it really does look. Mind you, I had forgotten my stabilizer this morning. So this video is literally just me holding my iPhone in my hands. 📱

- The new effects in the cavern are beautiful and it’s not AS loud as it used to be in there. Keep your eyes open for the bats 🦇

- The gold rush finale is awesome and really well done 💰

- The queue appears to have a number of interactive elements to it. Didn’t have time to check them out today, and will need to come back on a less crowded day to see what they may do.

- You’re going to get some great views of construction work on Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land 🚧

All in all, Thunder Mountain received a lot of love and it shows!
