Tonight has been utter humiliation for the #stopthegame lot and the Irish sports media. To the extent, of course, that those can be considered different things.
Evan Ferguson is 2 months shy of his 22nd birthday…..
So I decided to have a look at where certain strikers were at his age.
Jamie Vardy (23) - Halifax Town (Northern Premier League)
Didier Drogba (22) - Le Mans (Ligue 2)
Luca Toni (23) - Vicenza (Serie B)
Olivier Giroud (22) - Tours (Ligue 2)
Miroslav Klose (22) - FC Homburg (German 5th tier)
Ian Wright (21) - Greenwich Borough (semi-pro/non-league)
Antonio Di Natale (22) - Empoli (Serie B)
Kevin Phillips (22) - Watford (Second Division)
Ciro Immobile (22) - Pescara (Serie B)
Mario Mandžukić (22) - Dinamo Zagreb (Croatian First League)
John Aldridge (22) - Newport County (Fourth Division)
Tony Cascarino (22) - Gillingham (lower English divisions)
George Weah (22) - Invincible Eleven (Liberian league)
Henrik Larsson (21) - Helsingborgs IF (Swedish second tier)
Jean-Pierre Papin (21) - Valenciennes (Ligue 2)
Javier Hernández (22) - Chivas Guadalajara (Liga MX)
Diego Costa (23) - Rayo Vallecano (loan, La Liga)
Duván Zapata (24) - Udinese (loan, Serie A)
Diego Milito (24) - Genoa (Serie B)
Gerard Moreno (24) - Espanyol (La Liga)
Footballers develop at different rates, stages and on different trajectories…
Development is not linear, and that’s even more so the case for central strikers IMHO when compared with other “attackers”.
Yes, after exploding onto the scene far earlier than the majority of names we’ve listed here, we’d all have liked Evan Ferguson to be already playing at the levels we know he’s capable of and consistently.
Had it not been for a tackle from Mr Fabinho, I’d very much argue the case that we’d have already reached that stage.
That’s football though; nobody knows what’s in store for anyone, and nothing is guaranteed. Evan is no different.
But those amateur comedians who are writing him off and slating him when he’s yet to even turn 22?
Take a long hard look at yourselves because that’s absolutely pathetic, and in no other aspect of life would it be considered acceptable.
Players see what’s posted online. I know this for a fact, and that includes Evan.
Back Evan, get behind him. You may be shocked how quickly things can turn! 😉
"Pavee Point can get in the sea" - This week John and Sarah say it is time to tackle the silence around how the majority of Irish people experience "traveller culture" day to day:
Ireland has as Repeat Offender Crisis.
The CSO lays the facts out bare:
87% of burglary cases are re-offenders
84% of Theft, Fraud cases are re-offenders
80% of drug incidents are re-offenders
70% for sexual violence cases are re-offenders.
Let me be clear,
Tolerating this is a political choice...🧵
I can’t be the only one thinking I’m living in an asylum.
Hours of garbage about social media and misunderstood youths.
Panels all agreeing that prison is not the answer.. that actual victims are not the victims of pure feral thuggery.. they’re the victims of social media. Headline after headline, their pet scapegoat.
If you want to know why it’s not safe for law abiding people to go about their business, it’s because the state allows it to be. A state rusted by social justice theories that have failed everywhere.
Someone needs to check the water in LH. Even the sensible heads have lost it.
As crime spirals out of control in Ireland..
its important everyone understands which NGO shapes Govt policy on criminal punishment,
"The Irish Penal Reform Trust"
Below is its management team.
They get €755k in multi-annual State funding...
including €492k directly from the Dept of Justice.
They are hardcore believers in social justice theory. Their main goal is to "make prison a last resort”.
So basically the Dept pays these people to lobby for:
• fewer people in prison
• Early release
• Easier sentencing
• No new prisons EVER!!
• Justice for Travellers
They regularly meet, host & mingle with Ministers & Opposition TDs.
Their own annual report boasts:
“we shaped the thinking of many political representatives who went on to be elected.”
So this is how the policy sausage is made:
1: Dept funds the NGO.
2: NGO develops woke policy.
3: NGO lobbies same Dept.
4: NGO then also lobbies the Opposition.
5: NGO enters Govt working groups.
6. Woke policy becomes Govt policy.
Hats off to this team, they are brilliant at what they do,
All funded by you! 👏🏻
This is horrific.
I hope & pray the family on the way to the airport will be ok. 🙏
The question I want to know, were the drivers of the car going down wrong side of the motorway out on bail or had they any previous convictions?
We are learning today that criminals are being let go from prisons under new Govt policy.
Mercy to the guilty, is cruelty to the innocent.
Today I'm delighted to announce my first ever Private Members' Bill has been settled by the Oireachtas, and ready to go before the Dail: the Criminal Records, Recording of Nationality and Immigration Status, Bill 2026.
This Bill will require An Garda Síochána to compile statistical data on the nationality and immigration status of convicted persons, published annually to the Oireachtas and the public.
Transparency and accountability. That's what this is about. No more guesswork, no more spin. Just the facts, published for everyone to see.
This is only the start.

The Labour party tried to intimidate me by issuing a highly personalised attack on me prior to the first story being published on Monday. That only made it worse.
@SmallerFishGAA I know Cork footballers will always play second fiddle to the hurlers but take a look at @OfficialCorkGAA . Half time in the football match and nothing yet 😭😭.
If they can't even be bothered promoting it, something needs changing.
Dear @lidl_ireland, multi-million pound sponsor of @LadiesFootball,
if you really want to 'Get Behind the Fight', ask if you are OK funding a sporting association created for women and girls that is allowing men and boys to identify into female teams and changing rooms.
Female athletes who play Gaelic Games deserve fair and safe sport - can you get behind that?
If the Social Democrats want to talk about standards of debate, they might have thought to let me know before they let journalists know that they'd gone to the teacher.
We didn't shout over female TDs. We shouted over Ministers. But I congratulate the Social Democrats on being able to tell the difference - I had genuinely thought they didn't know what a woman was.
It is a bold new strategy which sees an opposition party filing a formal complaint because government Ministers were held to account. Not even their own Ministers. Someone else's. The Social Democrats remain the only party in Leinster House who would remind the teacher she forgot to assign homework.

When the state funds the media through Coimisiún na Meán, the state expects to get what it paid for. And if it is not getting what it paid for, it may not pay any more.
Exhibit A.
This is the threat Irish journalists now work under.
NIAMH UÍ BHRIAIN: The enormous, gaping, ever-growing disconnect between this shambles of a government and the Irish people has never seemed greater. Yet, as ever, when the public protests fuel taxes the response is: smear and deflect, smear and deflect.
https://t.co/G4OaSQ3JO0
The Irish Media's unbroken pattern of reserving detailed investigations for critics of the state, and never the state itself, continues unimpeachably. As one would expect when the media depends now almost entirely on state funding to survive.
No one wants to see our roads blocked.
The solution is that the minister phones the reps of this campaign and organises a meeting.
If he does that, I understand these roads will be immediately clear.
