Shiva’s Trident, the Trishula, is not merely a weapon, but a sacred glyph of cosmic architecture.🧵

It encodes the primal triadic pattern of existence: Creation, Preservation, and Destruction, or more mystically, Will, Love, and Intelligence. Yet beyond its mythic aspect in the Macrocosm, this symbol is a direct anatomical and energetic map of the human being, the Microcosm.

Each of the Trident’s prongs represents one of the three primary energy currents, or Nadis, that govern the subtle body: Ida, Pingala, and Sushumna.

The Left Prong, Ida Nadi, is the lunar current. It is the Feminine, Cooling Nerve. The Yin node. It governs the subconscious mind, the intuition, the breath of the left nostril. It coils around the spine and flows to the right brain. In the sacred language of polarity, this is Shakti, the Goddess Force.

The Right Prong, Pingala Nadi, is the solar current. It is the Masculine, Heating Nerve. The Yang node. It rules over the conscious mind, logic, action, and the breath of the right nostril. It coils in counterpoint to Ida, stimulating the left hemisphere of the brain. This is Shiva, the Eternal Witness.

These two serpentine flows (Ida and Pingala) are the original Twin Pillars. They are Boaz and Jachin of Freemasonry. Od and Ob in Kabbalah. Adam and Eve in Genesis. They are the ancient binary current that animates matter and mind, duality itself.

But the Secret of the Trident, and indeed, the secret of every Great Work, lies in the Middle Prong.

Sushumna Nadi is the Central Channel, the Axis Mundi, the Tree of Life, the Bridge between Worlds. It is neither masculine nor feminine, but the harmonization of opposites, a Third Force.

This is the path of the Mystic, the Alchemist, the Yogi, the Magus: to balance Ida and Pingala, to silence the polarity, and then ignite the Central Flame. This channel alone leads to Ascension.

In Hebrew Kabbalah, the Sushumna is known as Aour, the “Light” column. It aligns with the Middle Pillar of the Tree of Life, the channel through which Divine Consciousness descends and returns. Freemasonry encodes it as the Ladder of Kadosh, a climb through 33 steps, the 33 vertebrae of the spinal column, toward the Crown.

It is the Jacob’s Ladder, set between Heaven and Earth, upon which angels ascend and descend. The Greeks knew it as the Pillar of Stone, the backbone of the world.

Aleister Crowley, decoding the sexual mysticism of East and West, wrote, “The Phallus of Shiva the Destroyer is really identical with the Qabalistic Middle Pillar of the Tree of Life.”

This is not metaphor, it is literal occult anatomy.

The Sushumna houses the Seven Chakras, the energy vortices or "whirling wheels", each a gate to higher consciousness. The Chakras are astral organs through which the latent energy known as Kundalini rises, coiled like a serpent at the base of the spine, awaiting ignition.

Dr. Randolph Stone wrote, “The central core (Sushumna) is the ultrasonic energy current of the Soul... the primary energy which builds and sustains all others... resonating with the Eternal Sound Current, the highest vibrational essence of Brahman.”

This Eternal Sound Current is the Logos, the Word, the Vibration that was “in the beginning.” In Hindu thought, this is Om. In Kabbalistic thought, it is the Shekinah returning through the Pillars. In Gnostic cosmology, it is Sophia rising.
