It’s a great day to advocate for family medicine on Capitol Hill with @AAFP! We're urging Congress to protect #Medicaid, address med student debt, and fix Medicare payments—so patients can access comprehensive, whole-person #primarycare. #FMAS2025
Really special to be acknowledged by your peers for your work. I am not alone in this work and wish to acknowledge the many other Family Docs who are also worthy of acknowledgment. Special cudos to my colleagues Dr Barbara Keber and AAFP President Elect Dr Sarah Nosal for also being named.
The relationship between a patient and their physician is at the heart of medicine and especially primary care. This relationship is built on trust, compassion and a shared commitment to health. I'm troubled by the growing number of policies—at both the state and federal level—that threaten to erode that trust by inserting politics into exam rooms and potentially criminalize physicians for doing their jobs.
This isn’t just a policy issue. It’s a public health issue. It affects how physicians care for their patients. It affects whether physicians feel safe and supported in making difficult clinical decisions based on evidence, training and patient needs. And it affects the future of medical education—what we can teach and what future physicians are allowed to practice.
The @aafp stands against any attempt to undermine the autonomy of physicians or the integrity of medical care. Medicine must be guided by science and evidence, not politics. Decisions about care must be made by those trained to make them—together with the patients they serve.

Medicaid isn't a handout, it's a lifeline. @afp_alaska's Dr. Margaret Carlson Cosentino wrote in @adndotcom about the positive impact #Medicaid has on her patients’ lives. "My job as a family physician is to provide health care for all patients — from veterans to infants to sick children to loved ones in nursing homes. That’s why I’m asking leaders in Alaska to reject Medicaid funding cuts," she writes. https://t.co/i46ejiUqZh
@dadiakedan7G @NYSAFP@aafp The ultimate goal is to increase patient access to primary care. One of the ways is to increase the number of Family docs by increasing the interest in Family Medicine by reaching out to med students, college students, and yes even high school students.
I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for the AAFP Board of Directors. I am honored to be named by the Nominations Committee to be on the ballot at the COD in Anaheim. I am eternally grateful for the support and encouragement of my family, friends & colleagues of the NYSAFP.
