Trump ripped up NAFTA, replaced it with USMCA, then ripped that up too. The lesson is that markets have little reason to trust this president's signature.
So Canada shouldn't accept pain today in exchange for promises about tomorrow. It should judge any deal by whether it serves Canada's interests now.

" Economic warfare on Canada is not very smart"
-Scott Galloway, Professor , New York University Stern School of Business
"Canada has based a big portion of their economy on good relationships with the USA. It's the largest undefended border in the world. And yet we (the USA) have decided to declare economic warfare on them. They ( Canada) have been amazing Allies for the USA. To think that we are messing with them this much is not very smart.
" These (US) tariffs were supposed to inspire a flurry of deal-making... and they are...but the deal-making is outside of the US...People are reconfiguring their supply chain to avoid the US who they feel they can't count on".
"Other countries don't understand the tariff policy which seems based on the blood sugar level of a president and his chief economist ( Peter Navarro, who said Canadian officials are dishonest! ) who is citing people who don't exist in economic papers. We have seen throughout history that tariffs are an elegant way to reduce prosperity" . Extracts from Piers Morgan Uncensored

Donald Trump and John F. Kennedy. Two names that should have never, ever, been put next to the other as equals.
"Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave." JFK
"For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal." JFK

. @MarkJCarney was once a rock star central bank governor.
In his current role as 🇨🇦 Prime Minister, he is working to reinvent multilateralism.
I was delighted to write a piece for
@TIME reflecting on why he is one of the world's most influential people https://t.co/WJ3QuSTDjI
@mattshumer_ You talk about previously unimaginable real world impacts on careers. What about real world impacts on water/electricity? I assume AI cannot replace a destroyed planet?
Jivani’s claim that Canadians are “fanning the flames of anti-American resentment in Canada” echoes the Trump narrative that Canadians should just sit back and accept Trump’s attacks on our economy and sovereignty and say thank you for being mistreated.
Trump said Canada’s borders were fake, denigrated the sacrifice of NATO troops in Afghanistan, imposed tariffs on Canada with the intention of using economic pain to annex us, has referred to our Prime Minister as“Governor,” and continues to issue threats and insults against us.
As a result, Canadian opinions towards the U.S. have grown far more negative, a trend seen almost everywhere in the world (even in places that were once extremely pro-US, like Poland). Claiming this is a result of Canadians “fanning the flames of anti-American resentment”, rather than a result of Trump’s actions, is absurd.
And by making that absurd claim, Jivani is insulting the Canadian People and carrying water for an Administration that has treated Canada like garbage.
@tim_cook ...claiming to honor Dr King, while failing to speak to current threats to civil rights in American communities, and failing to speak truth to power
This feels like a speech from a different era in all of the right ways. Bravo to the Prime Minister on delivering a speech with the substance, seriousness, and resolve that the moment demands.
Carney Doctrine from Davos speech:
Stop pretending the world plays fair: make Canada stronger and less dependent, and team up with other medium-sized countries so we can stand up for what’s right without being pushed around.
Elections are for later. Vote Conservative, vote Liberal - that choice will come. Put down your partisan swords today and take a moment and listen to this speech and what is being framed. These times are not like any other.
