Local control is stripped 133 times in this AEA bill. Public schools will cease to have any decision-making if this bill is passed. The governor will essentially control every school in Iowa with what services they can & cannot have to serve their students https://t.co/r3rYzFrFeJ
Governor Reynolds is making Legislators who aren’t supporting her AEA plan come to her office and report that to her personally. She’s acting like a dictator.
@SecretS11277898@RandyOnEd Tell me you don’t know what you’re talking about without telling me you don’t know what you’re talking about. I would encourage people to do their own research and not let the governor spoon feed bad information to you.
Read the Iowa Code for yourself. Iowa’s AEAs were NEVER intended to be “Iowa Special Education Area Agencies” alone.
The code specifically calls out the provision of education services and media/technology as well.
All 3 are the core mission. #ialegis

AEAs equal the playing field in the educational environment for urban and rural students. Meanwhile our governor is playing political games.
Tell @IAGovernor we need ALL parts of the AEA in ALL nine districts to support ALL of Iowa’s kids!
Iowa's Area Education Agencies take your tax dollars further. Printing and graphic design services are about half of what private business would charge. This is one of many examples. Color printing: 11 cents instead of 29 cents. #ialegis#everydayataea
Iowa needs ALL services provided by AEA! @KimReynoldsIA is dead wrong on HSB 542! Don’t be fooled Iowa, she’s not walking anything back. Stay vigilant!
AEA Curriculum and instruction resources are partnered with quality professional learning opportunities to support the development and implementation of teaching practices and to improve student learning. #EveryDayatAEA
@RandyOnEd If she really wants to look at govt efficiency, look at county structure. We don’t need 99 counties in Iowa! AEA’s have gone from 15-9 in last 20 years!
@MDonahueforIA Don’t be fooled! Stay vigilant ! Her words may sound good, but what she is proposing is not in the best for Iowa’s students, teachers, schools or AEAs!
AEAs Media Libraries provide a wide variety of instructional tools and resources for teachers and students; supporting high-quality teaching and learning. #EveryDayatAEA
Fall 2023 data shows school district staff gave whopping approval ratings for 50 AEA programs and services: 46 soared above 90 percent, meeting or exceeding expectations, and four (4) rocked approval ratings above 80 percent, still shining bright!
House Study Bill 542 proposes significant cuts to the Iowa AEA System. Get informed now about how those cuts may affect students, schools, and educators across Iowa. #SaveOurAEA
2/2 It also doesn't matter if you kids attend public or private schools. All schools, especially those in rural districts will suffer. It is bigger than special education services.
1/2 I don’t care what political party you support. Our governor has it drastically wrong this time. The AEA system in the state is needed and all students will see a decrease in services they receive. Please contact your local representative and show support for the AEA system.
Maybe Schoolhouse Rock is failing me. Bills have to pass 2 chambers & be signed by the Governor to be laws. The AEA Bill dropped yesterday & the DE has an email out w/a deadline to choose if districts are going to stay w/the AEA & has jobs posted. Uhhh… democracy? Transparency?
@KrauseForIowa I find it ironic at the Perry shooting press conference Gov. Reynolds said more mental health care is needed, while she is aiming to reduce funding or eliminate Iowa
AEA’s (where school psychologists & social workers are employed to
support area schools).
