We have been calling for ruthless, frequent and universal testing of NHS staff for some months now to allow the NHS to return to elective surgery. It is sad to see that the government rejects this.
Yesterday, @Keir_Starmer@JonAshworth@leicesterliz and I, brought a motion to Parliament calling on the Government to introduce weekly testing of NHS and care staff.
331 Conservative MPs voted against it, even though they spent many Thursdays clapping for carers.
The @RCSEd has concerns over the rush to hand over billions to private providers to carry out surgical operations in light of Covid-19; around quality of care, training and over-stretching an already thin workforce. You can read our statement here:

We are also concerned that the infection rates are not calculated separately for infections in hospitals and care homes and the implications this has for a return to elective surgery.
@RCSEd asked @LordPhilofBrum to submit this written question to the govt. on our behalf. We are concerned that the R number is 0.7 to 1 as a UK wide average, suggesting the pandemic is still growing in some areas.
